Starfield Player Recreates The Jetsons' Season 2 Flying Car
Another such design feat was recently achieved by Reddit user L4westby, who had managed to design a custom Starfield ship modeled after the flying car from The Jetsons, one of the most beloved Hanna-Barbera cartoons of all time. While the futuristic Jetsons family made use of a green spacecraft in the original run of the show in the early '60s, the mid-'80s revival series changed the flying car to red. That second iteration was used as the basis for L4westby's ship, which shares its role model's saucer-like body featuring a transparent glass dome at the top. The form factor of the ship's rear-mounted engine also resembles the wings that adorned the later versions of the flying car from ABC's hit animated series.
Elaborating on their creative process, L4westby revealed that this impressive recreation of The Jetsons spacecraft was put together using a number of Bethesda-sanctioned mods. Specifically, the player made use of Matilija Aerospace and DerreTech, both of which add a wide variety of ship parts to the base game. Aside from PC, these mods are also available on the Xbox Series X/S, having launched as part of Starfield's surprise June 2024 update, which expanded the game with the addition of the Creations mod storefront, among other novelties. While some Starfield Creations are only offered as paid content, the ones used in this design can be downloaded free of charge across all platforms.
The Matilija Aerospace mod was used for some of the larger ship modules incorporated into this The Jetsons flying car recreation, whereas the DerreTech add-on provided the parts making up the spacecraft's cockpit with a back entrance, L4westby explained. The player's original creation adds to the ever-expanding list of impressive Starfield ship designs that fans have authored to date.
As was the case with Bethesda's past games, mods have the potential to significantly prolong Starfield's shelf life. The developer itself is also far from done supporting its latest RPG, as it's currently working on the game's very first expansion, Shattered Space, which is scheduled to hit the market in late 2024.
