Summary
- Starfield lets players recruit a variety of crew members and assign them to their current home ship.
- Each crew member brings in a different set of skills, but due to limited space, players will have to choose their recruits wisely.
- There are several ships in the game that have high crew capacity, ranging from 6 to 7, provided players have the appropriate skills to accommodate more crew.
Part of the fun that's Starfield is being able to travel the stars in the company of the game's various characters and crew members. Each potential crew member comes with a set of skills that can be beneficial for space travel or space combat, so the more great companions players recruit, the better.
Of course, not all ships will have the same amount of space. And even if players are able to pilot a more advanced ship with lots of crew space, they might still not be able to assign the full number of crew without having the right skill perks. However, once those hurdles have been crossed by leveling up, players looking for great company need not search far for ships with the most crew space in Starfield.
Ship prices and availability may vary depending on the player's skills and level.
10 Polis
- 6 Crew Members
- Deimos Staryard
- Price: 263k
Those who are serious about their ships will likely visit the Deimos Staryard and find the Polis and Polis II ships being sold there. Luckily, Deimos doesn't just cater to military factions, but civilians can also make purchases there. In terms of crew space, this is one of the finest picks.
Polis is a C reactor ship, so make sure to have the right perks unlocked to be able to pilot it. It has a decent cargo capacity of 2700 and can carry up to 6 crew members. Its 30-lightyear jump distance also makes most of Starfield's galaxy quite accessible.
9 Murasame
- 6 Crew Members
- Gagarin Ship Technician
- Price: 225k
Gagarin is not exactly a place many will visit organically, but those who plan on completing Barrett's personal quest will likely find their way here eventually. The local ship technician has a chance of selling the Murasame, which not only looks great but has some good stats, too.
With 6 crew member spots, players don't have to make too many tough choices regarding who to take along on their journey. It has way less cargo capacity at 470, but it's a bit more accessible in terms of pricing and its B-class reactor.
8 Voyager
- 6 Crew Members
- Cydonia Ship Technician
- Price: 319k
The Voyager vessel is most likely to appear in the inventory of the ship technician located outside of Cydonia on Mars. Before heading into the mining colony inside, turn left to the small building to find the local vendor.
This ship carries 6 crew members, and like Polis, it comes with a C-class reactor. Its jump distance is a bit lower than the previous vessels, but at 25 lightyears it's still a commendable choice for players looking for a good passenger vessel. It's cargo space is nice as well, at around 1580.
7 Abyss Trekker
- 6 Crew Members
- Paradiso Ship Technician
- Price: 345k
Before hitting the beaches of Paradiso, players should stop by the local ship technician for the Abyss Trekker. Where it lacks cargo space with only 340 units available, it shows a lot of promise with its immense 30-lightyear jump distance and 6 crew member crew space.
This one is a C-class reactor, so appropriate skills will be required to navigate this hulk of a ship. It receives bonus points for having a good defense in the form of a powerful hull and plenty of shields, and a good offense thanks to its ballistic capabilities.
6 Vanquisher II
- 6 Crew Members
- Stroud-Eklund Staryard
- Price: 414k
To get this vessel, players will have to hit yet another corporation's staryard. This time, it's the Stroud-Eklund one, which most will discover anyway during the side quest Overdesigned. The local vendor is selling a few solid ships here, including the Vanquisher II.
It has a pretty steep price tag, but given its powerful C-class reactor, 30-lightyear jump distance, and immense cargo space, it's the perfect vessel to splurge on for those who not only want 6 members on their crew but also to fly with a powerhouse of a vessel. It's definitely geared more towards a defensive carrier and cargo hauler, though, so avoid space fights despite the decent shield capacity.
5 Kepler R
- 6 Crew Members
- Overdesigned side quest reward
- Price: Free
Completing the Overdesigned side quest in Starfield will potentially yield this unique, incredibly handy Kepler R vessel. With 6 crew member slots, this ship is potentially what Stroud-Eklund's team will create following the player's feedback to them during the mission.
As a C-class reactor, the Kepler R can do a lot. It's fast, it can jump relatively far, and it comes packed with admirable cargo space. For a captain who wants to give their crew the best of all worlds with an aggressive explorer vessel, this is the way to go—and it's free.
4 Stronghold
- 6 Crew Members
- Akila City Ship Technician
- Price: 400k
Stronghold's name reveals exactly what it does best: being defensive. A fantastic hull, paired with fantastic shields and tons of grav jump distance. It's a Constellation explorer's dream come true, making it the perfect 6-crew vessel for players who want to bring as many friends along with them.
Stronghold is most often found in Akila City. Speak with the ship technician in the building right of the city entrance gates.
3 Dullahan II
- 6 Crew Members
- Hopetown Ship Vendor
- Price: 257k
Some may have missed the ship vendor in Hopetown, which is a shame since the Dullahan II is a fantastic vessel for captains eager to set sails to the stars on a 6-crew vessel. A C-class reactor means there's plenty of power to distribute, though most of it will go to engines, shields, and the grav drive.
Speaking of the grav drive, this one's a perfect exploration ship thanks to its 30-lightyear jump distance. Its only downside is the miserable cargo space of only 300 units, but thankfully, its price tag isn't as shocking as some of the other vessels ranked here, which somewhat makes up for it.
2 Crimson Fleet Wight II
- 7 Crew Members
- The Key Ship Vendor
- Price: 339k
If 6 crew members are just not enough, then look no further than this unique Crimson Fleet Wight II (pictured here is the regular Wight, but look for the upgraded version that bumps the crew space to 7). This highly exclusive pirate-style vessel becomes available to players if they begin the SysDef and Crimson Fleet quest, and can be bought from The Key, the Crimson Fleet hideout.
This ship has been reportedly quite difficult to find, and will only appear on the vendor when players are high enough level (likely 30+). Make sure to sleep long enough for the vendor to refresh her inventory. The Wight II requires high piloting skill as it's a C-class reactor, and while it has a unique look with an immense amount of crew space for 7 people, it has a lackluster cargo of 870 and a mere 18-lightyear jump distance.
1 Dragonfire II
- 7 Crew Members
- Eleos Retreat Ship Technician
- Price: 324k
A far more accessible (but perhaps less unique than the Wight II), is the Dragonfire II vessel that can be purchased at the Eleos Retreat. The ship technician's office is in a building to the right when facing the retreat center, where players are likely to end up when randomly overhearing about the retreat from a city guard.
Dragonfire II is without a doubt the best high-crew ship the game offers. Not only can it accommodate 7 crew members, but it also has a fantastic jump range of 30 lightyears, decent cargo space at 2790 units, and a good distribution between weapons and shields. For players who want to survive, thrive, haul cargo, and explore with a massive crew, this is the ship to save up for.
Starfield is available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
