Starfield: Shattered Space is off to a rough start on Steam as the new DLC falls to a mostly negative rating on the platform, less than one week after its release. Starfield: Shattered Space is the first story expansion for Bethesda's massive space RPG, but its lack of innovation from the base game is causing players to blast the DLC with negative reviews.
While Bethesda found massive success in the likes of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, fans were left disappointed by the release of Starfield in 2023. The gigantic space RPG was Bethesda's first new intellectual property in 25 years, meaning it had a lot riding on it to be something special. Unfortunately, its current review score on Steam, which is mixed at the time of writing, perfectly sums up the game's release. Many were disappointed that Starfield didn't live up to the studio's previous works, while others say that it still has a lot to offer.
The Best Gaming PC Builds For Starfield: Shattered Space
Starfield: Shattered Space is Bethesda's first major DLC expansion for the title. Here are some of the best gaming PCs to play it on!
For those who thought poorly of Starfield, Shattered Space had even more pressure on its shoulders as fans were hoping it would make enough changes to turn the IP into something special. Sadly, that doesn't appear to have been the case, as the DLC has now slipped to a mostly negative review rating on Steam, just three days after the expansion's release. While there's no concise reason as to why Shattered Space is receiving so many negative reviews, many state that the DLC is just more of the same. But that might not necessarily be such a bad thing for everyone.
Starfield: Shattered Space Review Score Falls to Mostly Negative
At the time of writing this article, the number of reviews for Shattered Space exceeds 1,300 and only 37% of them are positive, resulting in the DLC receiving a mostly negative review score. While it is perfectly plausible that the expansion claws its way back to a mixed rating with a few more positive reviews, things aren't looking good for Starfield's first DLC outing. Reviews are also trickling in on Metacritic, with seven different critic reviews resulting in the expansion receiving a score of 54, while its user score sits at 6.1, both of which leave Shattered Space with a mixed rating.
It didn't take long for Shattered Space to receive mixed reviews at launch, but now the Steam reviews have continued to roll in and make matters even worse for the DLC. Steam user MrSpacePenguin says that Starfield "is still boring" and that there are "tons of loading screens" in the DLC, while Zedalice went as far to say that Shattered Space is a "complete rip off" and that it should have been free. Scrolling through the many negative reviews gives a consensus that fans expected more content from the DLC, with the amount included not being worth $30.
