A cryptic new post from Starfield's social media team appears to be hinting that a new, major announcement is incoming. It has been nearly two years since the original launch of Starfield, and the game's second anniversary on September 6 could include more details regarding what's still to come for the space action-RPG.

Bethesda Teases 'Exciting Things' on the Way for Starfield

Bethesda had already been a big name in the action-RPG world for years, thanks to its work on The Elder Scrolls and later games in the Fallout franchise when it unveiled Starfield in 2018. Though its popularity has not lived up to the standard set by its two older sibling franchises, Bethesda is firmly committed to its original IP, continuing to provide updates for the game despite mixed reactions from its player community still lingering.

Starfield Could Reveal Something Big on September 6

In a new post on the game's official Twitter page, the development team thanks players who have stood by the game and enjoyed exploring the Settled Systems. The post also includes a 12-second animation that, at first glance, appears to just be celebrating the game's second anniversary. However, about halfway through, the video forms into 45 grid-based panels, which appear to begin glitching individually, revealing a different message underneath. Not all the hidden yellow panels are displayed, but when assembled, the ones that are shown appear to form the phrase Terran Armada, which is not currently one of the several factions in Starfield.

Bethesda recently confirmed that a second Starfield story expansion is in development, following the release of Shattered Space last September. The patent for the DLC was apparently filed under the name "Starborn," but that could be a working title or a code name, and Terran Armada could potentially be the next big expansion coming for the game. If so, online rumors state that fans won't be able to dive into it until 2026, but they may be getting a special peek into its contents as part of the anniversary celebration.

Starfield Deserves Another Game, If Only to Tell One Story

There are many other possibilities as to what "Terran Armada" could be referencing. The Terran Marines, an elite subdivision of the United Colonies' military, has a similar naming convention, and a possible scenario could be that this faction might be featured in an update with a large battalion of starships. "Terran" refers to coming from Earth, and since Starfield's story has turned the planet into an uninhabitable desert, it's unlikely that a new faction will arise from the cradle of humanity. However, the wordplay of combining it with "armada," a term used for a fleet of warships, could hint at a new, large set of land-based vehicles coming to Starfield.
