Summary

  • The Galactic Highway Network mod significantly enhances Starfield's REV-8 vehicle with added highways in cities.
  • The mod is exclusive to players, but potential for additional features like NPC drivers could be explored by other modders.
  • Despite some compatibility issues with existing mods, talented creators in Starfield's modding community continue to innovate.

A new Starfield mod has added highway roads to the cities in Bethesda’s RPG, massively improving and integrating the REV-8. The REV-8 was first added to Starfield a short while back as the game’s first land vehicle, although this useful mod makes the experience of using it much better.

Starfield’s modding community has really started to take off lately. Earlier in the year, Bethesda released the Creation Kit for the game, giving talented creators all the tools they needed to improve Starfield in any way they could imagine. There have already been a ton of incredible creations, such as the wild Starfield mod that adds Dune’s sandworms to the game. If Starfield is anything like previous Bethesda games Skyrim and Fallout 4, it should have a booming modding community for many years to come.

This incredible Starfield mod was uploaded to Nexus Mods by user TheMilkArtist, and is titled Galactic Highway Network. According to the user, it "opens up a new way to explore and get around each city by adding a network of roads to most major cities" in the game. Previously, Starfield's REV-8 was only used to get around different landmarks on a planet's surface, and it's cool to see it being integrated into cities such as New Atlantis and Akila City, among others. The only caveat here is compatibility. It's incompatible with any mods that affect city exterior cells, although TheMilkArtist is open to others making compatibility patches.

Starfield Mod Adds Highways For the REV-8

The highways added by this mod are for player use only, but there's massive potential here. Another modder could potentially use this as a base to build from, and even add NPC drivers on the roads. That's pure speculation, but considering the amazing Starfield mods seen so far, nothing is impossible. A lot of the REV-8 Starfield mods at the moment seem to be based on changing the appearance of the vehicle, but it's always cool to see them get more functionality, too.

The release of Starfield's Shattered Space DLC is almost here. Considering the game's mixed reception from fans, and Bethesda's efforts to win fans over in the year since its launch, Shattered Space could prove to be a make-or-break moment for Starfield's future. While the game was an undoubted financial success, Bethesda will want Starfield's lifespan to go on for many years to come, just like some of its most successful titles over the years, Skyrim and Fallout 4.
