Since its launch, Starfield has continued to be a divisive subject within the gaming community. Depending on who is asked, Bethesda's space adventure could either be a masterpiece or a lifeless shell of an RPG. Taste is completely subjective, but that hasn't kept Starfield from being hugely debated.
Despite the turmoil Starfield has faced, as far as it's known, Bethesda is still going ahead with its initial post-launch plans. A second DLC is expected to be announced sometime this year, while rumors have ignited hope that the game will come to the PS5 soon. If these rumors hold true, Bethesda has a clear way to charm its new players with some fun Sony-based Easter eggs hidden throughout its planets.
Starfield’s Modding Community Could Be the Canary in the Coal Mine
With Starfield's modding community losing interest, the future of Bethesda's ambitious sci-fi adventure is currently left unknown.

Paying Homage to Sony's Most Beloved Exclusives
Exploration is at the heart of Starfield. As a space-faring protagonist, players jump from one planet to the next, as they work to uncover the mystery that lies at the center of Starfield's story. With the vastness of Starfield's setting, there is plenty of extra room for Bethesda to hide some fun-loving Sony tributes on various planets. Whether it be an ancient statue that resembles Astro from Astro Bot or a gun inspired by The Last of Us, Starfield could find plenty of ways to give PS5 players a warm welcome to its galaxy.
Space suits inspired by Kratos' armor in God of War or Sam's Bridges uniform in Death Stranding may simply be the tip of the iceberg. There are even more subtle reference possibilities, too. Players could stumble upon haikus accredited to Ghost of Tsushima's Jin Sakai or Ellie's journal from The Last of Us. The PlayStation has a deep well of exclusive franchises that Bethesda could potentially have at its disposal, and it might help make the game's world feel more lively.
One of the biggest criticisms of Starfield is that it feels barren. Not every player feels this way, of course, but there are a significant number of gamers who were put off by the game's mellow approach to world building. Adding a little extra dash of spice through PlayStation Easter eggs might be a simple way to improve this aspect of in-game exploration.

Starfield has released several post-launch updates, like the REV-8 vehicle and its first DLC, Shattered Space, but it has yet to gain the same traction as its fellow Bethesda predecessors.
Starfield Has Already Dabbled With Showcasing Microsoft-Owned Franchises
- Starfield introduced a Doom crossover at the end of 2024.
- The official Creation Club mod by Kinggath Creations introduced Doom-inspired items, like weapons and a Doom Slayer suit.
- The mod also added a brand-new quest.
Of course, mods are clearly different from Easter eggs, but the mod in question was made by a verified Creation Club creator, meaning that the Doom crossover had Bethesda's blessing. This at least shows that Bethesda isn't against bringing other franchises into its space RPG. It's possible that Bethesda could even make PS5-exclusive expansions that are in the same vein as the Doom crossover. This could be controversial, since it would only be available for a portion of the player-base, but Sony exclusives like Returnal, Death Stranding, Detroit: Become Human, and Killzone would be franchises that could blend in with Starfield's hardcore sci-fi aesthetic quite well.
Right now, Bethesda and Microsoft have yet to confirm Starfield for the PS5. An Xbox Games Showcase is scheduled for June 8, and while the event is expected to offer updates and announcements about exclusives, it could also be a good stage to finally announce the rumored Starfield PS5 port.
