A Starfield player took to social media to warn other players of a situation they had with a fully-leveled Gymnastics skill, as they pointed out that the perk also came with some drawbacks when jumping around in certain environments. However, other Starfield players pointed out methods that can be used to mitigate the risks associated with the Gymnastics perk.
Though Starfield has been divisive among Bethesda fans, that has not stopped the game from becoming a hit on Xbox Game Pass, with a reported increase in subscribers in fall 2023. In addition, Bethesda stated that an upcoming Starfield update will bring Nvidia DLSS support, HDR controls, and further optimizations. While some Starfield players continue to experiment with their character builds to pass the time, one player pointed out the risks that come with being athletic in a low-gravity environment.
On Reddit, a user named WardenWolf lived up to their name by issuing a warning to other players on the r/Starfield subreddit. While Gymnastics does offer the combat slide, decreased fall damage, and increased jump height, it is considered one of the least useful Starfield skills compared to others such as Theft and Negotiation. In their post, the OP stated that additional protection against fall damage is not added to the fourth rank of the skill, and said that fall distance is never increased before damage is calculated. The OP added that any downward slope or elevation would result in suffering an affliction, and said that the increased jump height was not worth taking that rank.
In the comments, some Starfield players compared the Gymnastics skill to the Athletics perk that was prevalent in past Bethesda titles such as Morrowind and Oblivion. Other players pointed out one crucial workaround to the OP's claim. By using a boost pack in Starfield just before touching down on the ground, players can mitigate any risks associated with fall damage. In addition to that, boost packs coupled with the increased jump height from Gymnastics can be used to access vantage points for either exploring a new planet or for getting to high ground during a shootout.
Between the different perks and character creations, Starfield players continue to find surprising and unexpected ways to play the game. Between the next patch and the upcoming Shattered Space DLC, Starfield fans will have more to sink their time into soon.
