Starfield lets players build any spaceship they wish, and one Nintendo fan is cruising the universe in the classic Arwing from Star Fox. Bethesda’s latest open-world RPG epic finally lifted off last week, allowing gamers to explore over 1,000 procedurally-generated worlds at their own pace. One of the things Starfield has gained acclaim for is its in-depth customization options, which let players create their own space explorer and vessel to sail across the final frontier.

Earlier this week, Bethesda QA staffer Bucky Hoyle rebuilt Fox McCloud’s Arwing from the Star Fox games in Starfield, as shown in a series of screenshots shared on the official Starfield Twitter account. Hoyle’s version of the barrel-rolling starfighter is fairly close to the original, sporting its classic blue-and-white paint job and sleek, angular design. Other Twitter users are praising Hoyle’s work in the comments section, with some expressing how it takes them back to their days playing the various Star Fox titles.

Gamers were first introduced to Fox McCloud and his band of anthropomorphic space heroes in the original Star Fox, which launched on the Super NES in 1993 and was lauded for its imaginative-for-the-time 3D flight combat gameplay. While there have been several Star Fox sequels in the years since, the series has grown increasingly scarce over the past decade, with the last mainline entry being Star Fox Zero for the Wii U in 2016. There have been rumors of Star Fox making a Switch comeback, but the game in question was reportedly never even pitched to Nintendo.

While Fox and several other characters from the Star Fox series have at least found a secondary home in the Super Smash Bros. Franchise, it looks like the closest players might get to reliving the high-octane space battles of Star Fox proper will be to recreate classic vehicles like the Arwing in games like Starfield. Bucky Hoyle’s take on the trusty ship does a great job in translating the Arwing’s design to the more realistic setting of Starfield, allowing them and any other player who builds something like it to do barrel rolls in the far reaches of Bethesda’s newest game.

Starfield is available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
