An eagle-eyed Starfield fan spotted a small detail in the recent presentation for the title that sparked a discussion about how massive the outposts may be in the final game. There’s a lot of speculation surrounding Bethesda’s future release, and the potential size of Starfield’s outposts is the latest thing that fans are thinking about.

Starfield is a game that, according to the developers, has been 25 years in the making. The month of June brought the biggest update for the starving fan base when Bethesda released a 40+ minute breakdown for Starfield. The breakdown presentation covered every major aspect of the game, from how the gunplay works all the way down to character customization. One of the major aspects that was brought up during the presentation was base building, the ability to set up special outposts on the planets that the player can travel to.

Reddit user PackDog1141 noticed something in the 40+ minute showcase during the section about how to customize the player's outposts. As one of the outposts is being built, in the bottom left corner of the screen, it's revealed that despite the many sections of the base that have already been built, only 10% of the build limit is being used. This is a major improvement compared to some of Bethesda’s other games featuring base building. PackDog1141 posted their finding on Reddit and pointed out how huge these areas may be in the final game, but the response from the comments may burst the bubble for fans looking to build the massive base of their dreams.

As pointed out by a handful of comments, it’s possible that the base-building aspects in Starfield mirror Bethesda’s other big series Fallout. In Fallout 4, laying out a series of basic buildings wouldn't take much out of the build limit, but once the player added interior decoration and lighting to the base, the limit would fill up quickly. The buildings in the image for Starfield look empty, so it's possible that once the player starts to add all those space-related items inside, the build limit could balloon to 100% faster than expected.

The bottom line when it comes to this discussion is that only the developers know the truth about the base building limit for now. It’s possible that the outposts work exactly like Fallout, and it’s also possible that Starfield has the biggest base-building capabilities in any game released. There are still a ton of questions that Starfield fans will have to ponder until September. This includes the number of bases that can be built on each planet and how many crew members the player can assign to each one.
