Nickel (Ni) is a common inorganic resource in Starfield required in Research tasks, weapon modifications, Outpost construction, and material crafting. Given its classification as a "common" mineral, Nickel can be easily located across a vast expanse of over 300 planets within the game's universe.

However, many Starfield players are eager to uncover the most optimal strategies for farming Nickel. To cater to these inquisitive fans, the guide on this page offers comprehensive insights into both fundamental and advanced techniques for acquiring Nickel.

Starfield: How to Get Neon (Ne)

Here’s how Starfield players can harvest Neon (Ne), the Exotic Inorganic resource from outer space.

How to Farm Nickel

Players can get Nickel by either mining a deposit, breaking a node, or purchasing it from vendors. However, they can also add it to the inventory using console commands.

Mine Nickel Deposits with Extractors

After placing an Outpost on a planet with Nickel deposits, build an extractor to harvest this mineral automatically. First, add an Outpost Beacon near the Ni pile. Then, open the build mode and select “Extractor – Nickel.” Finally, connect the extractor to a power source and storage to start getting Nickel.

When scanning an area, Nickel deposits are shown as gold-ish highlighted spots on the ground.

Buy Nickel Ore from Merchants

Visit the Mining League shop on Neon to purchase Ni ores for 10 Credits. Of course, the Mining League is not the only place that sells this resource, and players can find it in other merchants in all major cities.

If a vendor runs out of Nickel, wait on a chair for 24 in-game hours and revisit them. Their supply should be restocked by then.

Harvest Ni Nodes with the Cutter

A quick way to earn Nickel is by breaking Nickel rocks with the Cutter. This will add one Ni to the inventory per node. However, note that Cutter-mining is also the slowest way of getting this resource.

Use Console Commands to Spawn Nickel

For instant Nickel acquisition, input the following code in the console command: player.additem 00005572 [Quantity]. Replace the last brackets with the desired number of ores.

Using the console command disables achievements.

Best Planets to Get Nickel Fast

Bel system is the ideal place to farm Nickel. Most planets in this star system, namely Bel I, Bell II-b, and Bell III, are Ni-rich. And the best part is that players get to access this star system early in the game. Bel system aside, other great options are Cassiopeia IV-b in the Eta Cassiopeia system and Rasalhague II in the titular system.

How to Complete Nickel Supply Missions

Starfield - Connecting Incoming Cargo Link Container To Fabricator

Supply missions require players to deliver a certain amount of a resource to a specific planet in exchange for Credits. To complete this mission for Nickel, place a Cargo Link in one of the Ni-producing Outposts and link it to another Outpost on the designated planet.

For instance, if the goal is to deliver Nickel to Mars, build a Cargo Link on Triton in the Sol system. Then, link it to the same structure on Mars and wait for the extractors to fulfill the request.

Building Cargo Links in the same star system is the best strategy as it requires no fuel consumption per delivery. Also, after the supply mission is done, players can discard the Outpost to regain their materials.

Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
