Neon (Ne) is an Exotic Inorganic gaseous resource in Starfield. Although it is not essential for basic crafting, Neon becomes crucial for Outpost construction and weapon modification as the game progresses. However, due to its elusive nature, players often wonder about the most effective means of obtaining Neon.

How to Farm Neon
Like all gaseous resources, Neon can be collected directly from vents. However, players can also get this mineral through mining devices or by purchasing it from resource merchants.
Get Neon from Active Vents
A Neon vent is a reddish pile of rock emitting a brown-yellow gas. Players will need to get close to these exhausts and press the A button (X on PlayStation) to collect the elusive gas.
Players can also add Neon to their inventories using the following Console Command: 00005587.
Build a Neon Extractor Over a Deposit
After building an Outpost near a Neon vent, players can head over to Create Mode and place a Neon Extractor over a deposit. This will initiate the extraction and harvest of Neon in larger quantities.
Note that the Neon Extractor must be connected to a power source. Otherwise, it won’t work. Additionally, it's advisable to connect the Extractor to a Gas Storage unit. This allows for increased mineral production per hour without the risk of the Extractor becoming overwhelmed or fully stocked.
Purchase Neon (Ne) from Vendors
If finding and extracting it proves difficult, players can buy manufactured Neon resources from merchants for about 16 Credits per unit. All the vendors in major cities offer this mineral. However, the best places to get it are the Jemison Mercantile and Midtown Minerals in Akila City.
Best Planets for Harvesting Neon
Considering that Neon is likelier to be found in frozen areas, the best planets for farming it are Proycon III in the Proycon A system and Kreet in the Narion system. Players will also find large Ne deposits on Porrima IV-c, Carinae II, and Schrodinger VII-b.
Primary Uses of Neon (Ne)
In Starfield, Neon is mainly used in crafting weapon mods, specifically Lasers and Sights. It is also a key ingredient in completing research projects such as Outpost Defense 2.
