A new Starfield mod is bringing the infamous Imperial Stormtroopers from the Star Wars movies to Bethesda’s latest open-world RPG. Mods are nothing new for Bethesda games, as Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim have generated countless player-made modifications that altered both titles in interesting ways. These mods run the gamut of adding new romance options, introducing modern-day features like climbing, and even completely transforming the game into a different genre altogether.
It naturally didn’t take players a full week to supply a wealth of impressive mods for Starfield, which launched on PC and Xbox Series X/S on September 6 after a lengthy five-year-long development cycle. Many of Starfield’s most notable mods thus far have been technical in nature, adding DLSS support or allowing the game to run on older PCs. Others are simply for fun, replacing Bethesda’s logo with the PlayStation Studios animation at launch or adding out-of-left-field characters like Seinfeld’s George Constanza into the world of Starfield.
A more fitting group of characters is now invading Starfield thanks to the work of modder kboykboy. They recently posted the Galactic Civil War Conversion mod on NexusMods, which replaces the UC police’s uniforms with the white plastoid composite armor of the Imperial Stormtroopers from Star Wars. Stories of Starfield players either being hunted down by these Stormtroopers or strapping on the armor themselves have already started to spread on places like Reddit, with some hoping to see a full-blown Star Wars conversion mod someday.
Star Wars has been a natural source of inspiration for Starfield players, as both properties take place in a setting where space travel and alien lifeforms are the norm. Since Starfield’s launch, players have used the game’s spaceship customization suite to recreate iconic vessels from the many Star Wars video games, movies, and television shows - such as Han Solo’s trusty Millennium Falcon, Luke Skywalker’s Death Star-destroying X-Wing starfighter, and more recently the signature Firespray-31 spacecraft of the infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett.
In the development notes for kboykboy’s latest Starfield mod, they hope to one day replace the armor worn by the game’s Freestar Collective with the uniforms of the Rebel Alliance and swap out Starfield's various weapons with Star Wars equivalents - thus making Starfield a full-scale reenactment of the Galactic Civil War of the original trilogy. In the meantime, players who install Starfield’s Galactic Civil War Conversion will have to be wary of the Imperial Stormtroopers that enforced the will of the evil Empire throughout the classic Star Wars movies - provided they don’t choose to enforce this will themselves.
