Plutonium (Pu) is an Exotic Inorganic resource in Starfield used in crafting Vytinium Fuel Rod, Security Robot 02, and some Outpost structures. However, as a rare mineral, Plutonium is challenging to farm—especially for beginner players lacking proper mining skills. To help with that, this guide provides a step-by-step guide for getting Plutonium in large quantities, as well as tips for harvesting it faster. That way, players will have a much easier time getting more Plutonium.
Starfield: How to Get Chlorine (Cl)
Despite being a common Inorganic resource, Chlorine can be challenging to collect; here’s how to farm this resource the easy way.
How to Farm Plutonium
To get Plutonium in Starfield, players will need to build an extractor over this mineral’s deposit. They can also break Pu rock piles with the Cutter to collect some or purchase it directly from resource vendors in major cities.
- Build a Plutonium Extractor. After landing on a Pu-abundant planet, place an Outpost Beacon next to a Plutonium vein. Then, go to the build mode and craft an “Extractor – Plutonium” for four Iron, two Tungsten, and four Aluminum. Finally, connect the mining tool to a power source to have it extra Pu automatically.
- Buy Plutonium from vendors. Valued at about 60 Credits, Pu can be purchased from resource retailers such as the Mining League in Neon City.
- Harvest Plutonium veins with the Cutter. Direct the Cutter’s laser at a pile of Pu rocks to get a couple of nodes of this valuable resource.
Once the Pu extractors have been activated, proceed to Uranus or Titan (Saturn's Moon) and rest for a few hours. This action will accelerate the passage of in-game time by several hundred hours, enabling the production of vast quantities of Plutonium.
How to Get Plutonium with Console Commands
In the console commands menu, input the code player.additem 0000558C [Quantity]. This will add as many Plutonium Ores as mentioned in the brackets. However, note that using these IDs will disable achievements for the current playthrough.
The above method is for PC players only.
How to See Plutonium in Planet Scans
Since Plutonium is an Exotic resource, it won’t show up on regular planet scans. To reveal it, players will need to upgrade the Scanning Skill in the Science tree to Rank 3.
Best Planets to Get Plutonium Fast
The optimal location for farming Plutonium is Grimsey in the Norion star system. This moon is easy to access and rich in Pu deposits, making it an ideal early-game mining spot. However, players can find lucrative veins on planet Porrima IV-D in the titular star system.
