  • The fan used a silicone ice cube tray to shape the egg and was pleasantly surprised by their first taste of Spam.
  • While the fan didn't turn their baked beans into cubes, this creative meal showcases the silly and quirky elements present in Starfield's universe.

A Starfield fan makes breakfast the Starfield way by turning their meal into a real-life plate of Chunks. Starfield is Bethesda’s massive space-set RPG and represents its first crack at an original IP in over 20 years. Reviews leaned mostly positive, with one common complaint being that Starfield takes a little too long to really get going.

With Starfield being set in the distant future, Bethesda gave itself a blank slate that allowed it to populate the universe with all sorts of silly and quirky fictional brands and products. One such brand in Starfield is Chunks, a food-producing corporation that sells edible treats in cube form, or “chunks” as the company calls them. There is seemingly no limit to the type of food the company is willing to chunk, from cubed apples to cubed cheese steak sandwiches, even cubed cola.

With food playing an unexpectedly larger role in Starfield than some might have imagined, the mere concept of Chunks has hit among Starfield players, with one person going so far as to bring Chunks into real life by converting their breakfast into a Chunks-style series of cubes. A member of the Starfield subreddit who goes by the name of Euphoric_Ad_2049 posted a picture of their protein-packed breakfast plate. A poached egg, a couple of slices of Spam, and baked beans.

The Spam was likely the easiest part to Chunk, as the luncheon meat comes out as a solid block when it's shimmied out of its tin. All that’s required from there is to cut it into the proper Chunks-style dimensions. The egg was probably a little trickier, as it looked like it required a very specific mold to give it the right thickness. In the comments, Euphoric_Ad_2049 mentioned that for the egg they used a silicone ice cube tray, presumably the kind for making those large ice cubes usually found in trendy cocktail bars. While Chunks in the game may not be the best food a player can eat in Starfield, Euphoric_Ad_2049 mentions that this silly picture got them to try Spam for the first time ever and that it wasn’t as bad as they were expecting.

Of course, Euphoric_Ad_2049 didn’t Chunk the beans. A disappointment for sure, but a forgivable exclusion. They could have frozen the beans in one of the aforementioned ice trays or maybe mixed them with a thickening agent like gelatin. But considering they intended to eat this meal, it’s probably for the best that they didn’t turn their baked beans into Jell-O. Chunks is just one of several silly gags running through the universe of Starfield. As many players will discover as they play, the game has already proven itself to contain a universe that can fit silly satirical takes on wild sci-fi visions of the future right alongside touching, sometimes heartbreaking tales of humanity.

Starfield is available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
