Starfield features a shop that is a clear nod to a store players could visit in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Prior to its launch, Starfield was often described as Skyrim in space. However, the game has since drawn more comparisons to Oblivion, with many feeling that Bethesda's massive open world sci-fi RPG has more in common with that game instead of The Elder Scrolls 5.
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer even said Starfield is more like Oblivion than Skyrim. Considering this, it's only fitting that Starfield has some Easter eggs and references that point back to the critically-acclaimed 2006 game. Starfield players have a gargantuan world to explore, and it's possible that there are still many Oblivion Easter eggs left to uncover, but one of the more obvious ones can be found in Hopetown, a city located on the planet Polvo in the Valo system.
Starfield player Wubb333 was exploring Hopetown when they discovered a store called The Best Defense. As some hardcore Elder Scrolls fans will recall, a store by that exact name exists in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. To find the store in Oblivion, players need to visit the Imperial City's Market District.
Starfield players that want to visit the new version of the store don't need to be in a rush. Hopetown is the location of multiple Starfield quests, and so players will most likely end up there eventually. Whenever they do wind up in Hopetown, Starfield players can pay The Best Defense a visit. In the meantime, Starfield players are encouraged to keep an eye out for any other Easter eggs that may be hiding in the game's massive world, whether they be more references to Oblivion, other Bethesda games, or just pop culture generally.
Of course, some of these other Easter eggs have already been found in Starfield. Starfield players have found Lord of the Rings Easter eggs, as well as references to real-life astronauts. Considering the sheer size of Starfield, chances are it will take months, if not years, for fans to find all its secrets, and so it will definitely be interesting to see what the community uncovers now that the game has exited early access and is readily available through Xbox Game Pass. Future DLC could add even more Easter eggs to the mix as well, so Starfield fans should definitely keep that in mind.
Starfield is out now for PC and Xbox Series X.
