Bethesda has released a brand-new beta update for Starfield, which players can download right now. The Starfield update is only a small one this time around, but features an exciting hint about the game's future.
Starfield has had an interesting journey since its release. Despite being met with stellar reviews from critics, boasting a Top Critic Average of 85 on review aggregator site OpenCritic, the response from players was a little more mixed. Starfield didn't resonate with all gamers like Bethesda's previous titles. However, the studio hasn't given up on the game in the nearly two years since launch, with an expansion and countless updates released to improve the Starfield experience.
Starfield’s Expansion Rumor Could Be a Blessing in Disguise
The latest Starfield rumor may sound like bad news on the surface, but it could ultimately be a glimpse at a brighter future.
Now, Bethesda has released the 1.15.222 beta update for Starfield, which is available to those who have opted into the beta branch of the game on Steam. This Starfield update is only very small, with minor improvements made to the format and display in the Creations menus, general crash and stability fixes, small updates to sorting in the Missions menu, and a fix for a problem that caused Extreme Temperature gear to appear incorrectly. It's not known whether this build will soon be pushed to the main branch of the game, or whether it will be withheld to be part of a larger Starfield update further down the line.
Although the update itself isn't the most significant, Bethesda's post about it on X offers an exciting tidbit about the game's future. The developer confirmed that "we're continuing work on future updates and will share more about the exciting things we have planned for Starfield in the coming months." While it was recently rumored that Starfield's next expansion won't arrive in 2025, it's good to know that Bethesda is still working on big things in the future.
With Starfield's future seemingly secure, Bethesda seemingly has a lot on its plate at the moment. Support continues for the 2023 RPG, while it's no secret that the development of The Elder Scrolls 6 is in full swing. A recent rumor suggested that Fallout 5 has also been fully greenlit, which would mean a significant amount of work for the studio in the coming years.
