Summary
- Shields are crucial in Starfield for protecting ships against enemy attacks and determining their durability and damage potential.
- Class A Shields like Deflector SG-60 and 60S Protector offer low Shield Health but have decent Regen Rates and power consumption.
- Class C Shields like Odin 3050-C and Assurance SG-1080 provide better Shield Health yet are lighter and consume less power compared to Class B Shields like 28T Defender, which is considered the best Shield Generator in the game.
Shields are important in Starfield since ships are severely exposed to enemies’ attacks without them. During space battles, the ship with the highest Shield can withstand more hits and, ultimately, deliver more damage. Of course, it’s not as simple as that since more mechanics are involved.
For example, it can get tricky sometimes when enemy ships are able to break the Shield and not let the Shield regenerate its health. In that case, maneuvering between enemy fire and having a Shield with a better Regen Rate is more important than Shield Health. For players looking for the best Shield in Starfield, here are the contenders.

It’s not easy to run a Class A Shield in Starfield since they don’t offer a high Shield Health. But, players can find some hidden gems with low power consumption and a decent Shield that protects the ship. The Deflector SG-60 is one of those Class A Shields. Unlocked at level 57 in Starfield, the Deflector SG-60 offers mild protection with a decent Regen Rate.

Generally, all Class A Shields aren’t worth the price, even if they have a better Regen Rate than the other Classes. However, for players who want to use a Class A Shield, the 60S Protector is the best choice since it grants around 800 Shield Health without consuming much power from the Reactor. The 60S Protector is not an early-game Shield Generator since players start finding it with Starfield’s Merchants at level 53. Like most other Class A products, it has a small weight, so it’s a perfect choice for small, fast ships.

While the 104D Guardian is powerful, it’s not as powerful when compared to other Class C Shields. At level 60, players unlock the 104D Guardian Shield Generator with 1350 Shield Health using 12 equip power from the ship’s Reactor in Starfield.

While the Odin 3050-C offers a slightly lower Shield Health than the 104D Guardian, it’s still a better, lighter, and less power-consuming Class C Shield in Starfield. Players even unlock the Odin 3050-C Shield Generator at level 57, which is three levels before the 104D Guardian. The only disadvantage here is that the Odin 3050-C can only be found in fewer areas than other Shields.

At level 27, players will start finding the Assurance SG-1080 Shield with most of the Technicians in Starfield. At such a low level, the Assurance SG-1080 has the highest amount of Shield Health in the game. However, even with its 1600 Shield Health the Assurance SG-1080 isn’t the best shield since the 28T Defender offers much better stats with a slightly lower Health.

Surprisingly, the 28T Defender has some insane stats for a Class B Shield in Starfield. Not only that, but players can start buying the 28T Defender at level 12, which is super early in the game. With 1500 Shield Health, a 7% Regen Rate, and a very low weight, the 28T Defender is arguably the best Shield Generator in Starfield.
Starfield is available now on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
