Summary
- Auto-Petter found in mystery boxes, making it a rare Stardew Valley item.
- Auto-Petter boosts farm animal relationships in game, increasing product quality.
- Chances of obtaining Auto-Petter extremely rare, with only 0.5% drop rate.
A Stardew Valley player hit an unexpected jackpot when they opened a Golden Mystery Box, collecting an Auto-Petter for their trouble. The find has left a number of Stardew Valley players envious due to the overall rarity of the Auto-Petter.
In Stardew Valley, players who want to raise farm animals need to make a regular effort to pet their livestock daily. Unlike pets, which can also gain hearts with the player, the relationship with one's farm animals can degrade over time. The more hearts a player has with their farm animals, the better the products they produce, so it's well worth the effort. However, it can be time-consuming and difficult to keep up when there are a lot of animals, and an Auto-Petter can be a huge help in making things easier, but they're hard to get.
Stardew Valley Player Makes Pearl in the Game
A creative Stardew Valley player replicates Pearl from the slasher film trilogy in the game, and it makes for a hilarious watch.
Reddit user whimsigod shared their surprise when they inadvertently discovered that Auto-Petters can drop from Golden Mystery Boxes. A screenshot shows them visiting
Clint, who had just opened a Golden Mystery Box, which yielded an
Auto-Petter. The player had no idea that they could get a prize like this from the Golden Mystery Boxes, and judging from the comments, there are a number of fellow farmers who didn't know, either. The possibility of doing so was only added in the 1.6.4 Stardew Valley update.
Stardew Valley Player Beats Incredible Odds to Get Auto-Petter
It's not entirely surprising that many fans didn't know that there was a chance of getting the Auto-Petter in the Golden Mystery Boxes. No matter where a player tries to get them, the odds of finding one are rare. For example, there's only a 3.6% chance of getting a Auto-Petter from a treasure chest in the Skull Cavern. However, the Golden Mystery Box odds are even worse. Whimsigod only had a 0.5% chance of ending up with an Auto-Petter from their box, making it nearly rarest item possible to acquire from one.
Magic Rock Candy consistently has a lower drop rate, at 0.4%, but the value of the item is incomparable.
With the odds of getting an Auto-Petter being so low, some players have largely given up on ever getting one. While players can guarantee the ability to get one by following Stardew Valley's Joja route and completing the community development process, many players don't like supporting Joja, leaving them with much lower chances. It's easy to see how the Auto-Petter fits into the overall philosophy and lore of Stardew Valley, with the game valuing hard - but rewarding - work, but it can nonetheless be a bit disappointing for fans who really want one.
