Summary

  • Stardew Valley quests pose challenges due to NPCs like Robin being inaccessible during tasks, causing frustration.
  • Inaccessible NPCs during quests, like Robin building structures, prevent completing tasks efficiently in Stardew Valley.
  • Developer ConcernedApe may address NPC accessibility issues in Stardew Valley quests with future patches to improve player experience.

A Stardew Valley player has failed a quest because of the way Robin's carpentry services work. The Stardew Valley player's plight underscores a problem with the game's quests that many wish there were a fix for.

Stardew Valley offers quests that can be acquired in a number of ways, including a pair of message boards in town. NPCs can post requests there and typically give the player a set amount of time to complete them. This adds another layer of difficulty, since doing things like catching specific fish in Stardew Valley can partially be up to luck, but the game can also create some headaches when it becomes impossible to meet requirements.

Stardew Valley: Best Expansion Mods You Should Install

Players hungry for more content and things to do in Stardew Valley should check out the following mods.

Enter Stardew Valley player Adventurous_Bad4277, who shared their 27- out of 28-step completed Stardew Valley quest that they ended up failing. The quest is from Emily, who tasks the player with saying "Hi" to every single person in town. In theory, it's a simple quest that gives players two days to run around and click on each NPC. However, Adventurous_Bad4277 hadn't considered when they picked up the quest that Robin, the town's carpenter, was currently on the player's farm, building a new barn for them. Their screenshot shows them looking at their quest screen and then Robin, who's furiously working as the sun is beginning to set.

Inaccessible NPCs are a Headache in Stardew Valley

Unfortunately for Adventurous_Bad4277, when Robin is building something outside, she becomes inaccessible. Players can't talk to her or give her items, even if she personally made a request of the farmer. However, she's not the only one that can cause a problem for players trying to finish quests or other tasks in Stardew Valley. Numerous other players shared their experience with being unable to complete quests because a Stardew Valley villager wouldn't come out of their home, for example.

Considering that Robin is accessible when she's working inside a building, like expanding the player's house, it seems like a simple enough fix for ConcernedApe to add in a future patch. Being able to briefly speak to her to hand over requested items, birthday gifts, or to complete a quest like this one would be a huge help and potentially save a lot of headaches created purely by poor timing or a lack of foresight. Currently, ConcernedApe is still issuing patches for some of the lingering issues in Stardew Valley that appeared after the 1.6 update launched on consoles and mobile, so it may be a while before a general patch or update emerges. With any luck, the developer will consider this ongoing issue and patch in a solution in the future.
