Summary

  • Getting 2 Prismatic Shards from 1 mob is extremely rare in Stardew Valley.
  • Luck may be influenced by gear like the Burglar's Ring or mods like Monster Compendium.
  • The valuable Prismatic Shards can be used for gifts or unlocking powerful items.

A Stardew Valley player shared their surprise when they experienced the incredible luck of getting two Prismatic Shards from the same mob in the mines. The unexpected drop has impressed other Stardew Valley players and left some more than a bit envious.

Stardew Valley's mines are full of riches, so long as a player can survive them. While the mining itself poses no risk, the mines and caverns of the game are full of monsters that can potentially be deadly. However, they can also drop valuable items, ranging from ingredients useful on the farm to super rare drops like the Prismatic Shard and under certain circumstances, the Auto-Petter. However, getting more than one of these in a single run, let alone from a single mob, is something that's extremely uncommon.

The humble Leek is one of the first wild vegetables that players will encounter in Stardew Valley, and useful for both food and gifts.

Reddit user Hoakkin shared a gameplay clip of their experience in the mines. In it, the player can be seen entering an infested level that's full of Cave Larvae that they promptly set to work killing off. After clearing a group, one Cave Larvae remained, and slaying it yielded two Prismatic Shards. While the gameplay clip doesn't record their voice or face, it's clear the player was stunned, as they stop and look at their inventory screen twice, first trying to make space for the drop, and then looking at the rare Stardew Valley drop in their inventory a moment later.

Stardew Valley Player's Luck is Remarkable

Fellow fans have shared their envy and admiration for this player's luck, with some trying to determine just how lucky it was. Once a player reaches the end of the mines, they have a 0.5% chance of getting a Prismatic Shard from every enemy slain there. However, getting two drops at once is even rarer. However, some pointed out that there may be some modifiers at work. Wearing a Burglar's Ring, for example, increases the rate of drops and gives a chance for double drops. However, getting one requires defeating 500 Dust Sprites. The player completes a challenge to kill 30 Duggies moments before getting the drop, so it seems unlikely that they'd already slain that many Dust Sprites and gotten the ring.

Another potential modifier is the Monster Compendium, which boosts double loot drop rates by 3%. However, one way or another, the player hasn't stated that they have either of these potential drop rate modifiers. Even with them in effect, it would still mean having very good odds to get two Prismatic Shards at once. What the player ends up doing with the shards is up to them, but they make excellent gifts for most villagers and can be used to purchase or unlock a variety of things, like the powerful Galaxy Sword.
