In Stardew Valley, there are five Legendary Fish that you can catch once per save file (or once per player in multiplayer). These fish are particularly challenging to reel in and require specific conditions to appear. One of these fish, called The Angler, is a fascinating and challenging fish to catch. It has a notable bioluminescent dangler that hangs from its forehead, said to attract prey in the dark depths. This guide covers everything players need to know about catching The Angler and its uses in Stardew Valley.

When and Where To Catch Angler in Stardew Valley

Anglers can be caught in the river in Pelican Town during Fall in Stardew Valley. You need to be at least Fishing Level 3 (this can be achieved naturally by fishing or with the help of Fishing Buffs from food).

You can cast your line anywhere in the river as long as you're standing in the designated northern end of the river. This area includes the wooden plank bridge and the shoreline north of it. If all of these conditions are met, there's a 20% chance of catching an Angler with each cast.

Using a Curiosity Lure will increase your chances of hooking the Angler from 20% to 25%. If you have unlocked Qi's Walnut Room, you can buy Magic Bait, which allows you to catch the Angler regardless of the current season.

While you’re at it, try your luck at catching Ms. Angler, another one of the five required catches for Mr. Qi's Extended Family Quest in Stardew Valley. It's identical to the Angler in terms of sale price, healing effect, location, and catch rate.

Uses of The Angler in Stardew Valley

While fish aren't usually the best gifts in Stardew Valley, Anglers can be a good source of income. Their sale price depends on their quality, as shown in the table below:

Apart from selling them, you can place Angler in a Fish Pond to produce Angler Roe. There’s a 37.5% chance that an Angler will produce Roe every day. It can also be used in different cooking recipes, like Maki Rolls and Sashimi in Stardew Valley, and even used to craft Quality Fertilizer.
