Stardew Valley allows players to add their personal touch to everything. With hundreds of character customization and home decoration options, players can let their creativity run wild. Whether players are out planting crops or battling enemies in the Mines, there’s no better feeling than coming back to the comfort of their farmhouse at the end of the day.
Initially, players reside in a small, one-room cabin in Stardew Valley. As they progress in the game, they have the option to upgrade their cabin into a larger house with multiple rooms. Players can even design and decorate their farmhouse according to their preferences. Whether they’re aiming for a cozy, cottage-core aesthetic or a modern, sleek design, the choices are endless.
Updated on April 27, 2025 by Renri Seong: The 1.6 version of Stardew Valley added more than quality of life changes and new events. Once you start getting a stronger income, you'll be able to buy furniture and wallpaper to pretty up your farmhouse. In 1.6, you can get new furniture through the furniture catalogues that weren't present in Stardew Valley 1.5. With the addition of some new events, you'll also be able to get exclusive wallpaper and/or flooring that you won't be able to find anywhere else. The following guide has been updated to include information on the furniture catalogues and how to get exclusive decorations for your farmhouse.
Stardew Valley: How to Get Oak Resin
Oak Resin is a valuable resource in Stardew Valley. Here is how players can get it.
Basic Farmhouse Designs
No Furniture or Wallpaper Catalogue
The Farmhouse is your personal residence in Stardew Valley. For new players, the farmhouse consists of a tiny room containing one bed, a fireplace, an old TV set, a floor mat, and various decorations that depend upon which farm style was chosen.
For example, if you opt for the Standard Farm layout will start with basic wooden furniture, featuring simple rustic walls and floors. Meanwhile, those who choose the Forest Farm will have vibrant leafy-green wallpaper. Likewise, their decor features a lot of indoor plants and delicate leafy garlands. The image above shows the decor players receive if they choose the Beach Farm.
Obtaining New Furniture
Furniture Catalogue
You can get The
Furniture Catalogue from Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop for 200000g. This item becomes available after you upgrade your farmhouse for the first time. It provides unlimited access to every furniture item free of cost. You likely won't be able to get it as soon as it becomes available, but the Furniture Catalogue is never out of stock. Thus, you don't have to worry about it not being there when you finally have the 200000g.
Once placed inside the home, selecting any item in the Furniture Catalogue will place it inside your inventory (if you have room). Furniture inside the catalogue include fireplaces, beds, lights, rugs, and more. You can even get fish tanks if you want to start an aquarium.
The Furniture Catalogue itself can also be used as a display table.
Other Ways to Buy & Use Furniture
Besides purchasing the Furniture Catalogue, you can buy furniture directly from Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop or from the Traveling Cart merchant near the Secret Woods in Cindersap Forest. The Traveling Cart only appears on Fridays and Sundays, and she'll pack up shop at 8pm.
Unlike the Carpenter's Shop, the price of furniture at the Traveling Cart varies, typically ranging between 250-2500g. Both shops offer a new and random selection of furniture items each day. In addition to purchasing, you can also obtain some unique furniture items by donating items to the Museum.
You can move and rotate furniture inside your house. However, not every piece of furniture can be rotated, so keep this in mind when you're decorating.
Most furniture items can be placed outside the farmhouse, but they will be destroyed if a villager walks through the same square they are placed in.
Stardew Valley: How to Feed Chickens
Chickens are some of the first animals that players can get in Stardew Valley, but it might be a little confusing on just how to feed these birds.
New Furniture in Stardew Valley 1.6
How to Get All Furniture Catalogues
Stardew Valley 1.6 added five new furniture catalogues that have special furniture, wallpaper, and flooring. Each of these new catalogues have a theme, such as the Wizard Catalogue, which contians furniture/flooring/wallpaper that the Wizard has in his tower. Most of these catalogues you'll get from the Traveling Cart, but there are some exceptions. Also, keep in mind that the catalogues are on a rotation (Traveling Cart). You may see a Junimo Catalogue on Friday, but it may be gone on Sunday.
Here's how you can get every furniture catalogue (1.6) in Stardew Valley:

Once you unlock the Desert Festival in Spring Year 2 (if you repair the bus), you'll have the chance to buy exclusive furniture and wallpaper that you can't get from any of the catalogues. You'll have to pay in Calico Eggs, which are an exclusive type of currency that appears only during the Festival (Spring 15-17).
The following vendors will sell exclusive wallpaper for 20 Calico Eggs:
- Jodi
- Jas
- Marnie
- Leo

- Robin
Keep in mind that once you use a wallpaper, it can't be used again, and you'll have to get a new one. If you plan to decorate more than one room with Desert Festival-wallpaper, then you should buy some extras. Make sure you have room in your inventory.

Cursed Mannequin Wallpaper & Flooring
If you get a Cursed Mannequin and leave it in a room, it may change the wallpaper and flooring overnight. Cursed Mannequins are a rare drop from the Haunted Skull enemies in the Mines. Wallpaper/flooring from the Cursed Mannequin cannot be obtained through any other methods. It's recommended you leave a Cursed Mannequin in a room that you don't mind having the wallpaper/flooring changed.
Other Wallpaper and Flooring
- There's exclusive wallpaper that you can get from the Casino in the Calico Desert. One is sold for 10000 Qi Coins while the other goes for 100000 Qi Coins.
- Exclusive, Christmas-themed wallpaper can be bought from the Traveling Cart at the Festival of Ice for 500g. If you miss it, then you'll have a chance to buy it again from Pierre at the Feast of the Winter Star.
- A unique blue wallpaper with yellow question marks can sometimes be obtained from breaking open Mystery Boxes.
Stardew Valley: How to Get Dinosaur Egg
There are many different animals that players can raise in Stardew Valley, but a few of them can't be purchased normally- one being a dinosaur.
How to Change Your Wallpaper and Flooring
How to Get the Wallpaper Catalogue
You can purchase The Catalogue (Wallpaper) from Pierre’s General Store for 30,000g. The Catalogue contains various designs for wallpapers and floorings. Like the Furniture Catalogue, wallpapers/floorings selected from The Catalogue are free and unlimited.
Pierre's General Store and JojaMart also sell new wallpaper and flooring each day. However, wallpaper and flooring can only be used once and will disappear from your inventory after one use. Thus, it's better to just save up for The Catalogue instead of wasting your money on wallpapers/floorings from Pierra or Joja.
Flooring
Flooring can not be stacked in the inventory, and can only be used once. When placed, floorings cover the whole room they’re placed in. They can also be placed on hallway floors between rooms.
Wallpaper
Like floorings in Stardew Valley, wallpapers are for one-time use only and can not be stacked. Once placed, they cover the walls of the whole room. Wallpapers can also be placed on hallway floors between rooms. There are over 112 wallpaper designs as of 1.6.
