In Stardew Valley, the most basic foraging resources are wood, sap, stone, and Fiber. Everything that drops these resources reappears at least once per season, so it's usually pretty easy for players to stockpile all four. However, the game also has plenty of different ways to spend them.

When it comes to trees, Stardew Valley players can set up tree farms just as soon as they start cutting down existing trees and collecting their seeds. Fiber plants are another story: while it's possible to grow plants specifically to harvest fiber, you'll need to jump through a few hoops to get access to the recipe.

How to Unlock the Fiber Seed Recipe

The fiber seed recipe is one of the rewards you get for completing a special order. The special order in question is called "Community Cleanup." For this order, Linus asks you to gather 20 trash items within a week.

This quest is easy to complete on the standard farm since you can only catch trash and Joja cans out of the two ponds. Joja cans don't count as trash for this quest, but you shouldn't have to cast your line more than 25 to 30 times to get enough trash. Another option is to set out several crab pots since they often catch trash instead of shellfish. Finally, trash found in trash cans also counts for this quest.

The day after you finish this quest, Linus will send the recipe for fiber seeds to you through the mail. You can also spot Linus enjoying the newly cleaned waterways of Stardew Valley the next time you visit the mountain region.

How to Craft and Plant Fiber Seeds

The fiber seed recipe calls for a few easy-to-find resources: five sap, one clay, and one set of mixed seeds. One set of resources creates four fiber seeds.

Fiber plants break some of the rules of seed planting, but not all of them.

That last fact means you can preserve fertilized squares by planting fiber plants on them on the last day of fall. Normally, all fertilizer types disappear on the first day of winter, but an active crop that doesn't wither will keep them around. You can then use wild winter seeds to keep the farm productive throughout the season.

Other Fiber Sources

Stardew Valley Fiber Island
The island farm overrun by wild fiber plants in Stardew Valley.

Another solid source of fiber is the farm on Ginger Island, at least once you fix up Willy's boat. The Ginger Island farm doesn't have any crows to worry about, but wild fiber plants will appear on empty farm squares and can destroy crops as they spread.

This means the Ginger Island farm is an excellent source of fiber if you leave it fallow. Simply come by every week or so, and more fiber plants will be there to harvest. If that's still not enough, you can also find plenty of fiber plants in the jungle, the eastern section of the island where Leo lives.
