After completing the Dark Talisman quest in Stardew Valley, you'll now have access to a new area: the Mutant Bug Lair. There's much more to this area than you might initially think, as it holds some special fish, and you can even pick up some resources while you're at it.

In particular, the Slimejack can be found here and can be a great addition to some of your Fish Ponds. Those looking to increase the amount of Slimes in their Slime Hutch will especially appreciate the Slimejack's abilities. This guide will show you exactly where and how to pick up a Slimejack.

How to Catch a Slimejack in Stardew Valley

Slimejack can only be found in the Mutant Bug Lair, a separate location found within the Sewers. The Sewers will become available to you after you have donated at least 60 items to the Museum and Gunther hands over the Rusty Key to you.

Then, to get to the Mutant Bug Lair, you'll need to start the Dark Talisman quest, which becomes available to you the day after you complete either the Community Center or JojaMart. The Wizard will request that you help him find his stolen magic ink, which will be located in the Mutant Bug Lair. You can find it to the left of the Statue of Uncertainty, shown in the second image above.

Inside the Mutant Bug Lair, you'll want to watch out for the Mutant Grubs and Mutant Flies, as they will continue to respawn and fly at you. You'll definitely want to come prepared with a decent weapon to keep these enemies at bay.

Surrounding the Mutant Bug Lair, there will be a green lake that you can fish in. You'll be able to find some Slimejacks in here, though it might take a bit of time before you pick one up as they aren't as common as Carp or Algae.

Slimejack are always available in the Mutant Bug Lair, despite the time of day or the season.

How to Use Slimejack in Stardew Valley

Despite just being a special fish found in one location, Slimejack has a few helpful uses, as well. This includes:

  • Selling for up to 300g
  • Used in a few recipes (Maki Roll, Quality Fertilizer, Sashimi)
  • Used to tailor a Fishing Hat
  • Used in a Fish Pond

Other than just selling the Slimejack you pick up, we recommend using it in a Fish Pond. This is because it can produce a few different items that can be incredibly useful, including a small chance to get a Green Slime Egg. If you're focused on building up your Slime Hutch and producing more Slimes, this can be especially useful. This also allows you to avoid having to pick up new eggs from Slimes in The Mines, Skull Cavern, Volcano Dungeon, and more.

You can also use a Slimejack to create a Fishing Hat in the sewing machine, especially since this is one of the best options available to create the hat, since it's easier to obtain than the other fish. If you want, you can also choose to sell any Slimejacks you pick up since they can give a decent profit of up to 300g.
