Stardew Valley is about the joys of farm life. From saving up to build a new coup for chickens to the joy of players finally getting to reap the rewards of a good harvest. For lucky farmers, there's a chance that they can wake up to find out a crop has grown to a huge size overnight. This guide has tips and tricks on how to make that happen in a player's favor.

All of these Stardew Valley crops can be bought from the General Store or JojaMart when they're in season, with pumpkins being the most pricey. Once the crops are in hand, there are a few steps farmers need to take to make sure they can get the big crop they're aiming for.

Firstly, the crops need to be planted in tilled land that is at least 3x3, making the set have nine crops minimum that are the same type. The player needs to make sure the crop in the very center at the very least is watered, cared for, and fully grown, so players that are busy crafting can focus on that easily. From there, as long as the center crop is around, there's a chance every new day in-game of it growing into a giant crop. Though, it's a bit tricky, as the chance is a slim 1%.

If that hasn't discouraged farmers from trying, there's a way to try to play the game in their favor, outside of whatever Stardew Valley mods can do to help. One important factor to the chance is that it matters that the plant in the center is fully grown, so using growth speed-up fertilizers like Speed Gro gives the player more days to see the results they want. If it's the end of the month, however, it may be best to just pick the plants and sell them to try again next season if a giant crop hasn't arrived yet.

For all the trouble, giant crops give twice as much produce as the regular crops, being a random amount each time the player cuts it down. If farmers are proud of their achievement, though, giant crops don't wither right away after a season ends, so they can enjoy their lucky pickings for a fair bit before taking them to market.
