The Stardew Valley Expanded creator, FlashShifter, has teased a big new project called Castle Village, an ambitious mod featuring a wealth of new content, including dungeons inspired by The Legend of Zelda. Stardew Valley’s world was significantly expanded by FlashShifter’s mod, and now the solo developer wants to take things even further with Castle Village.

There are many mods for Stardew Valley that improve gameplay, customization options, and visuals, even adding quality-of-life features. The game, created by solo developer ConcernedApe, doesn’t necessarily require mods to be engaging, as it already offers countless hours of gameplay. However, some players want to keep finding new things to do once they have explored the entire base game. That’s one of the reasons why Stardew Valley Expanded is so popular, as the mod offers a massive expansion that brings new NPCs, locations, character events, fish species, and much more. Now, the SVE developer is working on something entirely new for the popular indie farming sim.

The adventurer Lance is one of the new Marriage Candidates introduced in Stardew Valley Expanded. Just how can players charm him?

During an interview with NexusMods, developer FlashShifter shared their experience creating the Stardew Valley Expanded mod and their journey from being just a fan of the game to eventually working with ConcernedApe. When asked about any current projects, they revealed a massive new mod called Castle Village, which will introduce dungeons inspired by The Legend of Zelda. The solo developer didn’t share too many details, though they did confirm that Castle Village will feature a new city, fully developed NPCs, boss monsters, magical artifacts, new music, and more.

Castle Village Will Place a Stronger Emphasis on Monster Combat

FlashShifter admitted that, at first, Castle Village was going to be part of a 2.0 update for the Stardew Valley Expanded mod, but they ultimately decided it deserved to be its own mod. The developer also revealed that this new mod is even more ambitious than SVE and will place a stronger focus on monster combat. FlashShifter is now working on sprites for everything in this new region, trying to create an architectural style distinct from what Stardew Valley players are used to.

The developer has been hard at work bringing Castle Village to life, though they admitted there’s still a long way to go before the mod can see the light of day. There is no estimated release date yet, though FlashShifter has provided some images teasing players about this massive new project. While fans wait for the mod, they can continue to enjoy the vast amount of content available in Stardew Valley Expanded.
