Since its release in February 2016, Stardew Valley has gained immense popularity across the gaming community. The game’s developer, ConcernedApe a.k.a Eric Barone has a consistent history of releasing updates and new content for the game over the years. The last major update, Version 1.5, came out in December 2020 and introduced a significant amount of fresh content to enrich the gameplay.

In April 2023, ConcernedApe surprised fans by announcing the upcoming release of Stardew Valley Update 1.6. This unexpected news has left the game’s dedicated community filled with enthusiasm, as they deeply admire Barone’s commitment to keeping the game fresh even after seven years of its release. While announcing the newest update ‘Stardew Valley 1.6’, developer ConcernedApe emphasized that this update focuses “mostly on changes for modders and contains less game content than 1.5”. Since the announcement, Barone has been dropping hints about the new additions in Version 1.6 on X (formerly Twitter).

He has recently posted a sneak peek of the new content on September 28, 2023. The new features confirmed so far in Stardew Valley’s Version 1.6 are listed below:

  • A new Farm type
  • A fresh major Festival
  • Not one, but two new mini-Festivals
  • New items and crafting recipes
  • Cozy Winter outfits for the villagers
  • Over 100 new lines of dialogue
  • Support for 8-player multiplayer (on PC)
  • Expanded late-game content that explores deeper into almost every skill
  • Some Joja alternatives for some end-game quests
  • A new reward awaits those for completing billboard requests
  • Various small yet significant additions and improvements
  • Players will be able to uncover hidden secrets

In addition to this, there are a few illustrations giving a tiny preview of what players can expect in Version 1.6. It features portraits of Jas and Sebastian in cozy Winter clothing, three colorful frogs, a new purple tea, something that appears to be a quiver of arrows, possibly a new NPC wearing shades and a blue hoodie, and much, much more.

Developer ConcernedApe has indeed gone above and beyond with Stardew Valley Update 1.6. The new version directly adds support for modded content, making mods easier to implement for a smooth gaming experience. There’s no official release date for Version 1.6 yet – however, it looks promising to bring even more excitement and innovation to Stardew Valley’s intriguing gameplay when it finally arrives
