Stardew Valley is getting yet another update after version 1.6 was supposedly meant to mark a shift in development towards Haunted Chocolatier. Stardew Valley updates have always differed in size and what they add to the game, though typically big additions come in full additions behind the decimal point. With this in mind, it's reasonable for fans to speculate and dare to dream about what the recently announced 1.7 update will bring to the game. For some, they might be hoping for a few new farming features.
Stardew Valley Could Use More Unique Animals to Raise
ConcernedApe's farming sim has remained popular for several years due to how special it is for its genre. Stardew Valley has a particular unique cozy vibe to it that has its players coming back for more, especially with the updates it still regularly receives. Farming in Pelican Town offers all kinds of open-ended approaches that work well for the different farmers, but many of them will own livestock at some point during their Stardew Valley playthrough.
Livestock Options in Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley's cozy vibe belies the game's multiple quirky additions, like featuring mutant fish in the town's sewers and all sorts of strange creatures in Stardew Valley's mines. Despite this, the range of animals players can keep on their farm and take care of has remained quite tame between updates. The most intriguing critters fans can raise are dinosaurs and ostriches, with their farm mostly being populated by the expected cows, chickens, and pigs. Other cozy games like Minecraft make a good argument for more options.
Minecraft Manages to Have Fantasy Creatures Without Ruining its Vibe
Minecraft might not be a farming simulator like Stardew Valley, but it offers simplistic farming options to help keep players alive and fed during survival mode and to allow them to create farms in creative mode if they'd like to. Like Stardew Valley, Minecraft players can raise cows, pigs, chickens, and rabbits. Among those real-life farm animals, however, are creatures unique to Minecraft like Mooshrooms, Sniffers, and Hoglins. While Sniffers are a recent addition to Minecraft, and Minecraft's recent updates have been under scrutiny from long-term players as of late, Mooshrooms have been part of Minecraft since it was first launched out of beta. Minecraft' s creatures don't take away from the unique feeling the game gives to players, so it's safe to say Stardew Valley can pull off something similar with ease.
Stardew Valley has plenty of room to grow its farm life options.
There is an unspoken line regarding what fantastical creatures might be too unfitting for Stardew Valley, though, and it gets tricky as this line could differ between ConcernedApe and his game's many fans. Just like Minecraft's own mobs, some people will like them while others will feel like they don't fit the game in question. The fact that players can raise dinosaurs on their farm in Stardew Valley certainly leaves the door open, but how open is definitely up for debate.
Still, as players make their way through the Skull Caverns and swim across the sea to Ginger Island, they'll encounter plenty of strange creatures that make it clear that Stardew Valley has plenty of room to grow its farm life options. The open, unpredictable, yet cozy atmosphere that Stardew has is what continues to set it apart from other farming simulators like Story of Seasons, so expanding in that direction just makes sense. Nothing is known about version 1.7 yet, apart from the fact that it exists, so players should stay tuned for more information when ConcernedApe is ready to reveal more.
