Respawn is the developer behind the Star Wars Jedi games, some of the most successful single-player Star Wars titles. The developer is currently working on the third game in the Star Wars Jedi series, and in addition to this, the studio has just announced the development of another single-player Star Wars game that it's crafting alongside developer Bit Reactor: Star Wars: Zero Company.
The announcement of Star Wars: Zero Company didn't come with much information, with a reveal promised at the Star Wars Celebration in Japan on April 19. Rather than Star Wars Jedi, which is an action-adventure, Star Wars: Zero Company will be a turn-based tactical strategy game set during the Clone Wars. Players will build a team of covert operatives and deploy them on missions. This clear contrast to Star Wars Jedi's genre gives players a good mix of genres for more variety in the Star Wars gaming universe.
Why Star Wars Jedi’s Threequel Needs a Fully Explorable Coruscant
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor let players visit a fairly limited and linear Coruscant, and its sequel should make it into the ultimate jedi playground.
Star Wars: Zero Company Could Mark a New Era
Star Wars games tend to be focused on action, leaving fans who enjoy other kinds of games without. This is a massive waste, as the Star Wars fandom is diverse with many players who would be interested in a Star Wars turn-based tactics game. In 2025, the only turn-based Star Wars game is Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, which is a mobile game. Star Wars: Zero Company will be released on consoles and PC, making it the only game of its kind set in the Star Wars universe in over twenty years.
Star Wars: Zero Company is a refreshing change of pace from other Star Wars games. As a turn-based tactics game, it provides a completely different type of game than others like Star Wars: Battlefront 2, and Star Wars: Outlaws. It stands in even greater contrast to Star Wars Jedi, which features soulslike gameplay and takes place during the rise of the Empire period. While there are many tactical games out there, part of Star Wars' appeal is its setting, and a tactics game set in the Star Wars universe and during the Clone Wars is a great decision. The Clone Wars is one of the most popular timelines among Star Wars fans thanks to shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The Separatist droid army features some of the most iconic enemies in the franchise, so much so that they made a return in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's Sequel Stands Alongside Zero Company
Meanwhile, the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is in the works. Though it doesn't have a release date yet, players can likely expect it within the next few years. When Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launch, it was the only single-player action game set in the Star Wars universe that had been released in years. Upon its debut, it proved incredibly popular, with fans gladly showing up for a Star Wars game unlike any other on the market.
Star Wars: Zero Company has the potential for the same kind of success as Jedi: Fallen Order. As a Star Wars game that's incredibly unique, it fills a gap that has been empty for decades, and gives players more kinds of games to play. Zero Company doesn't need to beat Star Wars Jedi, as it exists in its own space. Instead, the two games can support each other and hopefully ring in a new era of single-player games for Star Wars fans.
