Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the upcoming Disney Plus series starring Jude Law, has completed its filming stage, as confirmed by a video posted on social media by members of the show this past weekend.
Similarly to The Mandalorian, Skeleton Crew will be set in the Star Wars universe after Return of the Jedi, with the two series meant to connect that particular era in the franchise. However, despite being planned as one of Disney's live-action shows for 2023, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew faced some production setbacks that made fans question the project.
It didn’t take long for Skeleton Crew to get back on track, as the series has officially wrapped up filming. The news was announced thanks to an Instagram post from the series’ stunt coordinator, George Cottle, who wrote, “That’s a Wrap on Skeleton Crew!!” On a now-deleted video that thanked everyone involved in the show for their hard work. Cottle's feelings were echoed by stunt actor Juliana Potter, who also posted an Instagram story pointing to Skeleton Crew filming being done.
Skeleton Crew will be helmed by Jon Watts, made famous by the MCU's Spider-Man trilogy, along with frequent collaborator Christopher Ford. While Law is the sole confirmed cast member up to this point, Watts has stated that the show will center on four kids “who are about ten years old who get lost in the Star Wars universe.” As Skeleton Crew heads into the post-production phase, Disney still has not announced an official release date beyond it being 2023 content.
Disney Plus' Star Wars slate for 2023 features The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and animated shows like The Bad Batch, Visions, and Young Jedi Adventures, with The Mandalorian season 3 premiere in March being the most anticipated event out of the bunch. Regardless, potential scenarios that could be explored in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew have made it gain interest from the fandom.
Shows like Andor, with characters less prominent in Star Wars lore than Obi-Wan Kenobi or The Book of Boba Fett, have had an easier time winning over critics and viewers, meaning the likes of Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte could benefit from not having to deal with as much pressure as fan-favorite Ahsoka.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is scheduled for release on Disney Plus in 2023.
