Star Wars Outlaws is starting to look like an absolutely massive video game, but the most recent trailer did a great job of giving fans a more condensed, easy-to-digest look at some of the key things the game has to offer. In around 10 minutes, the recent Star Wars Outlaws Ubisoft Forward gameplay trailer showed off the game's space dogfighting mechanics, some RPG-like conversations and moral choices, some stealth sequences, a little bit of combat, and even a brief tease of a few minigames for good measure.

It seems as though Star Wars Outlaws could be the complete package, offering a whole lot that fans have been wanting to see for years. But while the gameplay and story elements shown during the recent Star Wars Outlaws trailer were suitably compelling, there was one thing that stole the show yet again, and that was Kay Vess' adorable furry companion Nix.

"Putting the ‘70s Back in Star Wars" – Hands-On With Star Wars Outlaws

The Best War Games gets hands-on with Star Wars Outlaws to experience a closer look at blaster and ship combat.

Star Wars Outlaws' Nix Continues to be a Highlight

Nix Is a Very Capable Companion

When Star Wars Outlaws was first revealed almost exactly a year ago, one of the biggest highlights of its initial trailers was Nix, protagonist Kay Vess' little animal/alien companion. While cute companion characters are certainly nothing new to Star Wars, it was Nix's functionality that really turned heads, with the first trailer showcasing a few of the furball's useful abilities. In Star Wars Outlaws' first gameplay trailer, Nix is shown pressing a button in the environment that raises cover for Kay to use, as well as fetching a blaster rifle from across the battlefield and bringing it straight back to Kay.

This first trailer made it clear that Nix was going to play an essential role in Star Wars Outlaws' gameplay, and that's something that the most recent gameplay trailer doubles down on. In this new trailer, a few more of Nix's helpful abilities are revealed, including the ability to distract whole groups of enemies, attack a singular foe so that Kay can get an instant takedown, and scan an area to reveal hostiles.

Star Wars video games have had plenty of helpful companions over the years, but none are on nearly the same level as Nix in terms of sheer functionality and effectiveness. Even the most recent Star Wars video game companion, Star Wars Jedi's BD-1, can't hold a candle to Nix. While BD-1 can scan enemies and the environment and administer healing stims, Nix can do so much more, and it puts the companion in great stead already.

Nix Is Bringing A Lot of Charm to Star Wars Outlaws

From the trailers released so far, it seems as though Star Wars Outlaws will be packed to the brim with charm, with plenty of Star Wars-y details being sprinkled throughout the game to make it feel authentic and immersive, from environmental objects and markings to NPC dialogue and the content of quests. And that's not mentioning the few cameos that have already been confirmed for Star Wars Outlaws.

But Nix sits above it all, being the most charming element of Star Wars Outlaws so far. Along with his vast set of unique abilities, Nix has an array of adorable animations to go with them. For instance, to distract a group of enemies, Nix will play dead, making an absurdly cute facial expression and noise, and falling in a comically over-the-top manner. If Ubisoft plays its cards right, it could easily have the next Grogu on its hands with Star Wars Outlaws' Nix.
