Summary

  • Star Wars ships like the Millennium Falcon are characters on their own, not just set pieces.
  • Star Wars Outlaws' Trailblazer draws inspiration from the Millennium Falcon and Knights of the Old Republic's Ebon Hawk.
  • The Trailblazer's design, interior, and lore show similarities and differences to the Ebon Hawk.

Ships have always been an incredibly important aspect of the Star Wars franchise, with Tantive IV and the Devastator being the first thing fans saw after the opening crawl in 1977. In Star Wars, ships like the Millennium Falcon aren't just a sleek bit of set dressing or a simple plot device to get the characters from A to B, they're characters in their own right, often taking center stage during some of the franchise's most exciting action set pieces. While Star Wars Outlaws' Trailblazer can't reach the lofty heights of the Millennium Falcon, it isn't too far off the mark.

Also a Corellian light freighter, Star Wars Outlaws' Trailblazer takes a lot of inspiration from the Millennium Falcon and its fellow YT models, and it also acts as a home and base of operations for a smuggler. This isn't the first time a Millennium Falcon-inspired ship has appeared in a Star Wars game, however, with Knights of the Old Republic's Ebon Hawk beating the Trailblazer to the punch just over a decade ago. Naturally, the two ships have a lot in common.

Comparing Star Wars Outlaws' Trailblazer to Knights of the Old Republic's Ebon Hawk

How The Trailblazer's Outer Design Compares to The Ebon Hawk's

As mentioned up top, both Star Wars Outlaws' Trailblazer and Knights of the Old Republic's Ebon Hawk are inspired by the Millennium Falcon, and that's especially evident given their external designs. While the Ebon Hawk borrows the Falcon's circular shape but shakes things up by smoothing every surface and adding an orange-and-white color scheme, the Trailblazer features a more rectangular design, but imitates the Falcon's heavy greebling on its surfaces and around its sides.

How The Trailblazer's Interior Compares to The Ebon Hawk's

The interior of the Trailblazer is where the real similarities to the Ebon Hawk begin. Though the Ebon Hawk's loading ramp is positioned on the side of the ship and not at its rear, both the Hawk and Trailblazer's ramps look quite similar, and both lead into a large cargo bay that has room for a speeder/Swoop bike. Both cargo bays are also attached to a room that contains a weapons workbench, an engine room that contains the ship's hyperdrive, and a central hallway that takes players to the cockpit and communal room.

Both the Ebon Hawk and Trailblazer's cockpits feature computer terminals on the left side along with some seating, and both feature seats for a pilot and co-pilot at the front of the cockpit. While the Ebon Hawk's communal area appears at the center of the ship and the Trailblazer's appears next to the cockpit at the front of the ship, both feature circular seating surrounding a central table. Both ships also feature a very similar metallic gray finish on their flooring, walls, and ceilings.

How The Trailblazer's Lore Compares to The Ebon Hawk's

The in-universe origins of Star Wars Outlaws' Trailblazer and KOTOR's Ebon Hawk are surprisingly similar. Owned by the Barsha family, the Trailblazer was used as the personal ship of the Zerek Besh criminal syndicate's leader, Sliro. Star Wars Outlaws' protagonist, Kay Vess, steals the Trailblazer in her attempt to escape Zerek Besh enforcers on Canto Bight.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic's Ebon Hawk was created for use in the Republic Navy, but it eventually found its way to the criminal organization, The Exchange. The Exchange's Tarisian crime lord, Davik Kang, came into possession of the Ebon Hawk during the Jedi Civil War and used it to smuggle goods across the galaxy. That is until Revan and his crew arrived on Taris. Seeing no other way to leave the blockaded planet, Revan and his party kill Davik and steal the Ebon Hawk, narrowly escaping the Sith's bombardment of Taris.
