Star Wars Outlaws has implemented a new September update that addresses issues with the game’s stealth mechanics and provides other quality-of-life changes. Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment released the first true open-world game in the sprawling Star Wars franchise in August 2024 to mostly positive reviews, though some players have been less than kind in their assessments. While Star Wars Outlaws provides plenty of variety in exploring planets, taking sidequests for main crime syndicates, and blasting away enemy ships in outer space, some players have taken issue with its technical presentation and combat.
Many players have expressed frustration with the stealth missions on Mirogana toward the beginning of Star Wars Outlaws, which are meant to be an early test of protagonist Kay Vess’s skills as an aspiring scoundrel. However, fans feel that these starting missions are more difficult than they should be, due to Kay being easily spotted by enemies and forced to restart the mission. Even Star Wars Outlaws creative director Julian Gerighty admitted that these stealth segments might have been too punishing for the beginning of the game, and promised that they would be adjusted in a future update.
Star Wars Outlaws’ MT-7 Expert Quest is a Heartbreaking Display of Droid Humanity
Star Wars Outlaws' main narrative is considerably light and yet one Expert NPC side quest packs an unsuspecting wallop with a tragic story beat.
That update has come in the form of today's Star Wars Outlaws’ Title Update 1.1.2, which tweaks Star Wars Outlaws’ stealth mechanics to make it harder for enemies to notice Kay during certain missions. The new patch also adds cross-progression and cross-save features between all platforms, allowing players to retain their progress through Ubisoft Connect. Additionally, stability and performance have been improved across all platforms.
Star Wars Outlaws September Update Tweaks Stealth, Adds New Features
The patch sees that Star Wars Outlaws has higher graphical fidelity when using ray reconstruction and frame generation technologies, implements VRAM improvements, and adds fixes for FPS drops during certain scenes. The UI, HUD, and graphical settings have also been updated, making Quality mode the default graphical setting on consoles and adjusting the motion blur while using this mode. NPCs now have new idle animations across Star Wars Outlaws’ worlds, and various quest bugs have been fixed.
Star Wars Outlaws has garnered a mixed reception so far, with its lower-than-expected sales numbers even resulting in publisher Ubisoft’s stock value dropping. Despite this, developer Massive Entertainment is still committed to refining and improving Star Wars Outlaws through upcoming patches based on player feedback, with plenty more on the way ahead of the game’s planned story DLC.
