As is the case with most other offline video games these days, Star Wars Outlaws features an autosave system, ensuring that players never lose too much progress in the event of a death, crash, or unexpected power outage. Despite this, though, some may prefer the peace of mind that can only really come with a manual save.
The Best Star Wars Games, Ranked
On top of many successful movies, the Star Wars franchise has also seen a whole host of incredible games that have brought its universe to life.
Those players will be happy to learn that Star Wars Outlaws does feature a manual save option. However, when they first begin playing, they'll find that this option is greyed out, preventing them from saving the game whenever they want to. Thankfully, it does become available eventually, but there's one fairly major caveat.
How to Manual Save in Star Wars Outlaws
For whatever reason, Star Wars Outlaws doesn't allow players to save manually during missions. The autosave function will still work while quests are active, but the Save Game option in the pause menu will be locked. This is unfortunate, as the first few hours of the game are effectively just back-to-back missions. Worse still, the game doesn't really explain this very well, instead just displaying the message "Cannot save right now" when users hover over the locked Save Game option.
Why Can't I Save in Star Wars Outlaws?
As for why the developers locked saving during missions, it may have something to do with the choices players are expected to make. If they were able to pause and save at any given moment, they could effectively just save before every choice and reload if they don't like the consequences of their decision. Some will perhaps argue that there's no harm in this given that Star Wars Outlaws is a single-player game, but the developers may well feel that forcing players into a permanent decision leads to choices that feel a lot more meaningful.
