The High Republic makes a surprise inclusion in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The High Republic may be a new era in the Star Wars franchise, but it is extremely important to the canon, bridging the gap between the Old Republic and the Grand Republic era of Star Wars. The High Republic is a primary focus in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and players might want to know more about the era before embarking on a galaxy-spanning adventure.
Cal Kestis is a Jedi Knight who comes across many relics and remnants of the High Republic. As Cal embarks on his journey through the mysteries of the past in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, players might want to understand more than even Cal Kestis does about the ancient Jedi Order.
8 The Nihil
One of the greatest threats to the High Republic was the Nihil. This Marauder group ravaged the galaxy and the Outer Rim, causing many disturbances and violent wars with the Jedi Order. What’s most interesting about the Nihil is their access to the “Path” which defies hyperspace logic, allowing the Nihil to take impossible hyperspace routes to navigate the galaxy.
The Nihil may have begun as a small pirate group, but they soon grew to mass numbers, wreaking havoc across the galaxy, and damaging the Jedi Order. In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the Nihil begins a siege on Tanalorr, but is never seen in the flesh.
7 Familiar Faces
The High Republic may be centuries before the events of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but that does not stop familiar faces from appearing. One of the most prominent members of the High Republic is Yoda, an important member of the Jedi Council.
It’s no surprise that Yoda makes a strong appearance in the High Republic because he has trained Jedi for 800 years. Yoda is a respected member of the Jedi Council in this era, and what makes Star Wars Jedi: Survivor even more special is knowing that Yoda would have been one of the members to decide the fate of Tanalorr as a new bastion for the Jedi Order.
6 Jedi Golden Age
Many audiences might ask what the High Republic is, and the truth is that it was a golden age for the Jedi. For centuries, the High Republic saw a Jedi golden age, where the galaxy was bound to peace, prosperity, and an expansion of the Grand Republic. It was a great time when the Republic explored the galaxy, spreading hope to those that needed it with the many lightsabers they had.
By the time of the Galactic Empire, the Jedi are all but extinct. However, the High Republic saw the Jedi Order at the height of its power, as seen by their grand numbers and their golden robes. The High Republic was when the Jedi were at their greatest, only to succumb to their dogma centuries later.
5 500 BBY – 100 BBY
To better understand the timeframe of the High Republic era, audiences need to know that the centuries that took place were from 500 BBY to 100 BBY. This era began long after the Old Republic fell, and the start of the Republic Era. The end of the High Republic era came soon after the training of a young Count Dooku.
When players come across High Republic artifacts in terms of droids and architecture, they will understand just how ancient this technology and craft is, considering Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place in 9 BBY, hundreds of years after the peak of the High Republic.
4 High Republic Artifacts
For the first time in a video game, the High Republic exists during the Galactic Empire. Cal Kestis finds not only a Jedi Chamber, which was once a training area for young Jedi Padawan in the High Republic, but also finds an ancient droid, ZN-A4, nicknamed “Zee”.
Zee may not have her memory of how to reach Tanalorr, but she still has memories of the High Republic. Perhaps Zee is one of the last known records that can retell the events of the High Republic, that is, before she was left trapped underground on Koboh.
3 Dagan Gera, Jedi Knight
Perhaps the last surviving organic lifeform of the High Republic remerges into the age of the Galactic Empire, with the Jedi Order no more. Dagan Gera was a Jedi Knight during the High Republic era, a member of the Jedi who was sealed in a bacta tank for over two centuries to stop his desire for Tanalorr from creating a Dark Lord of the Sith.
During his prime, Dagan Gera was a powerful Jedi Knight, and players will get to experience that firsthand in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Dagan Gera is powerful in the Force, showing some abilities that have not been seen before. He is consumed by rage, a lust for power, and confusion about how the Jedi Order could fall to a lesser army of the Empire.
2 The Fall Of Jedha
Despite the consuming desires of Tanalorr, that was not the first planet that the Jedi wanted to make a bastion of their order. Jedha was a prominent location during the High Republic era, as this was seen as a holy moon due to the strong connection to the Force that the moon has.
Due to high conflicts between different groups, the Holy City of Jedha saw an outbreak of riots, and eventually, a battle that devastated the city, seeing the fall of many structures and the Final Protector statue fall. Seeing Jedha with such high importance, only for it to enter ruin perfectly encapsulates what happened to the Jedi Order.
1 A Lack Of Sith
During the High Republic era, there was a notable lack of Sith Lords. This didn’t mean that the Sith were extinct, it just meant that they were so deep into hiding that they were more focused on growing their power through the teachings of Darth Bane’s Rule of Two than creating an army that could rival the mighty forces of the Jedi Order.
Throughout the entirety of the High Republic, a Sith Lord was not seen by the Jedi Council for centuries. However, that does not mean that Dark Jedi did not exist. A Sith could have very well been seen if it wasn’t for the expulsion and imprisonment of Jedi Knight, Dagan Gera.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
