Just like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order before it, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's plot is heavily focused on an ancient group of force users. While Fallen Order's story followed the mysterious Zeffo, Star Wars Jedi Survivor delves into the High Republic era. An era that has seen a plethora of novels over the past years but has yet to break into mainstream Star Wars; at least until now.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor marks the first time that the High Republic has appeared in visual media. While the story is still heavily focused on the rise of the Galactic Empire, this exciting era of peace and expansion plays a significant role throughout the narrative. It serves as a great introduction to this period and will hopefully result in even more Star Wars games set in the High Republic.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Finally Shows Off the High Republic Era
The game continues the tale of Cal Kestis as he combats the Empire after Order 66. This time around, he discovers High Republic ruins on the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor planet of Koboh. Inside these ruins, Cal uncovers a Bacta Tank with a Jedi from that era named Dagan Gera. Things quickly go south, and Dagan Gera reveals that he betrayed the Jedi Order and was locked away. After a brief fight, he escapes with some raiders and heads off to the mysterious planet of Tanalorr.
Players then spend most of the campaign chasing after Dagan Gera and uncovering more secrets about Star Wars' High Republic era. This is the first time that Star Wars fans have gotten a glimpse of this era outside the novels, and although it does not show the era in its entirety, it still serves as a great introduction to this exciting period in the Star Wars universe.
The High Republic Is One of the Most Exciting Modern Star Wars Projects
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor may be the first time players get to see the High Republic, but it is far from the first story set within the era. Since 2021, Star Wars has been exploring the High Republic through a massive multimedia project that spans comics, novels, and audio plays. This project has seen more than a dozen stories over the course of two years, and it is just getting started.
The High Republic is quickly becoming one of the most interesting periods in the Star Wars franchise. It is set hundreds of years before the Skywalker Saga, and thus fully disconnected from those characters. The project has followed dozens of brand-new characters as they combat various threats in this golden era of the Republic. An era known for expansion, peace, and prosperity across the galaxy with the Jedi at the helm.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has given fans a brief look into this era, and anyone who wants to delve further into it can do so through the many novels. As it stands, Lucasfilm's plan is to tell this massive story through three phases of High Republic-centered media. The story is currently in the middle of phase two with phase three coming at a later date. While not every story is stellar, some of these books may be the best Star Wars novels around.
The books and Jedi Survivor are not the only High Republic projects that loom on the horizon. Lucasfilm's Young Jedi Adventures and The Acolyte will further expand the High Republic on Disney Plus, and Quantic Dream's Star Wars: Eclipse is supposed to be the first High Republic video game. There seems to be no shortage of High Republic content on the way, and hopefully Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has gotten fans excited to see everything this era has to offer.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
