In a recent video breaking down gameplay, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor seems to have sneakily confirmed that limb dismemberment will be possible when fighting with the lightsaber. Instead of just whacking enemies with the iconic Star Wars weapon, there appears to be more realism in the highly anticipated sequel's combat mechanics.
The first installment in the series, Fallen Order, is one of the most successful Star Wars games in recent years. With incredible combat, while being able to explore and learn more about the lore of Star Wars, many fans of the films and some who weren't even Star Wars fans at all found the game to be a fun experience. However, there were some players who were initially put off by the lack of dismemberment in the game due to the fact that it defies the entire logic behind a lightsaber. If a lightsaber were to exist in real life, it would surely cut through the limbs of whoever was unlucky enough to experience a strike from the weapon.
In an exciting twist, it seems as though Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has learned from this mistake if footage from a gameplay demo is to be believed. In an eight-minute-long video posted by IGN, there's a variety of footage explaining the combat stances that will appear in the game. Just a few seconds after the four-minute mark, protagonist Cal can be seen chopping off the leg of an enemy Scout Trooper.
There have been several minutes of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gameplay released in the past few weeks, but this footage seems to be the first to confirm some sort of dismemberment feature that will be implemented in the combat mechanics. There's still the question of whether this will be a common occurrence or not, but even if dismemberment only happens occasionally, those who voiced their dislike for the feature being omitted from Fallen Order will have something to celebrate. This instance of human dismemberment was only seen in one short moment, but the brief footage almost blatantly showcased the feature.
There's no doubt that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is one of this year's most anticipated games. Having such great success with the previous installment, there is a lot of expectation sitting on the shoulders of this sequel. Many fans are expecting this next entry in the series to be even bigger and better, and adding realistic mechanics to one of the most iconic weapons in science fiction in order to make the gameplay more immersive is a promising start.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor releases April 28 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
