Ahead of the release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles, Aspyr has revealed that Jar Jar Binks will be a playable character in the game. Jedi Power Battles already featured a varied list of playable characters. However, the bumbling Gungan is likely one of the more surprising additions for fans in the new version.

Released in 2000, Jedi Power Battles featured iconic characters and locations from the time of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. Looking to draw on the nostalgia of the original, Aspyr has announced plans to release a new version of Jedi Power Battles, bringing some additional content for fans to discover. Besides features like the ability to toggle lightsaber colors and the addition of cheat code support, players can take control of some new characters, with Jar Jar Binks being the most recently announced.

Star Wars Outlaws Deserves a Second Wind in a New Format

There is simply too much noteworthy about Star Wars Outlaws' premise to let it slip away into the past without a second chance in a new format.

Aspyr broke the news by releasing a new trailer for Jedi Power Battles, unveiling gameplay for Jar Jar Binks. The video showcased the iconic Gungan in action, taking on various enemies. While some fans might have unrealistically hoped for the character to use a red lightsaber and take on the infamous Darth Jar Jar persona from fan theories, he appears to attack with a large staff in the game. In addition, he features various chaotic voice lines that one would expect from the clumsy character. Jar Jar Binks will be playable at the launch of Jedi Power Battles on January 23, but fans can already pre-order the game.

It is worth pointing out that Aspyr is adding many other playable characters to the game with its upcoming release on modern platforms. Beyond Jar Jar Binks, the developer has revealed nine other new playable characters for Jedi Power Battles, with several more still expected to be announced. These additions include some variety, like the recognizable Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian. Some droid types are also becoming playable, with Flame Droid, Destroyer Droid, and Rifle Droid joining the roster. In fact, Jar Jar Binks is not the first of his kind to be announced for the game, as the Gungan Guard is set to be playable as well.

With the release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles only a couple of weeks away, fans will soon be able to check out these new characters, including Jar Jar Binks. Hopefully, Aspyr can learn from its experience updating other classic franchise games, such as its re-release of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, to make Jedi Power Battles the updated experience nostalgic fans want.
