Eight years after its release, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is back in the spotlight. Despite the game closing in on a decade since its launch, Star Wars fans have embraced Star Wars Battlefront 2 once more. With the surprising spike in player count, demand for another entry in the Star Wars shooter series has been reignited, and there are likely several reasons as to why this is the case.

Beyond Battlefront 2, it's been a busy few weeks for the Star Wars franchise in general. Late April kicked off some surprising reveals at Star Wars Celebration in Japan, while various crossovers also helped put Star Wars back in the spotlight. Battlefront 2' s resurgence is a surprising turn of events, but after the past few weeks of special Star Wars content, it makes a lot of sense.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Has Andor and Other Recent Star Wars Content to Thank

  • Season 2 of Andor concluded on May 13.

Andor has been one of Disney's most successful Star Wars spin-offs, and after the finale of its most recent season, Battlefront 2 witnessed an uptick in players. Even the actor who plays Andor's Wilmon Paak, Muhannad Ben Amor, has now expressed the desire for a third Battlefront game. While the season finale of one of the biggest Star Wars shows at the moment is definitely a big reason for Battlefront 2's newfound attention, the series likely isn't the only reason why players have been returning to the title.

Andor's season finale also serves as the series finale, meaning there unfortunately won't be a third season of the hit show.

Fortnite Has Put Star Wars Front and Center

  • Fortnite's Galactic Battle event started on May 2 and is set to end on June 7.

Over the years, Star Wars and Fortnite teaming up to celebrate Star Wars Day has come to be expected. However, this time around, Fortnite has gone even further with its partnership and has made an entire mini-season centered around the franchise and its characters. From beloved names like the Mandalorian to non-canon memes like Darth Jar Jar, Galactic Battle has turned up the dial on Fortnite's usual offering of Star Wars content.

With the surprising spike in player count, demand for another entry in the Star Wars shooter series has been reignited.

Revenge of the Sith's 20th Anniversary Brings a Heavy Dose of Nostalgia

  • Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith originally premiered in theaters on May 19, 2005.

In honor of Revenge of the Sith's 20th anniversary, limited screenings of the movie hit theaters in late April, bringing longtime fans a great throwback experience. While not a fresh release, this served as a solid appetizer for what was to come in the month of May with Andor. Of course, Andor is likely the biggest inspiration for players to return to Battlefront 2, but there is also bound to be a solid mix of Revenge of the Sith fans and Fortnite players who were also given a craving for a different Star Wars experience.

This year's Star Wars Celebration revealed a new film in the works. Star Wars: Starfighter stars Ryan Gosling and is scheduled to hit theaters in 2027.

The Verdict is Still Out On Star Wars Battlefront 3

The hope for another Battlefront game to become a reality continues. There has even been a Battlefront 3 petition made that's gaining some serious traction. Petitions may not guarantee that a new game will get the green light, but it at least serves as a clear indication that the demand for more Battlefront is there. The Star Wars shooter may have faced a rocky start, but since then, Battlefront 2 has gained fresh attention in one of the most unexpected ways.
