The world and stories of Star Wars all come in different formats, from live-action movies to video games and animated TV shows. Its animated shows give Star Wars fans some of the best stories that the franchise has to offer, and several new ones have been released over the past five years. One series, Star Wars: Visions, was released in 2021. The first Star Wars: Visions season was an anthology of nine shorts that were created by different anime studios in Japan. The style of Star Wars: Visions season one is distinctly anime, but also changes in style within the genre from episode to episode as each anime studio uses its own style.

Star Wars games remain popular but haven't necessarily pushed art style boundaries. The success of Star Wars anime shows that fans worldwide are hungry for different interpretations of Star Wars, and the franchise's video games should follow. A Star Wars video game with an anime art style would be different, imaginative, and something that many fans would likely like to see. With a Star Wars anime series to be released just around the corner, now would be the perfect time to make one.

A New Star Wars Anime Series Will Be Released in 2025

Star Wars Celebration Japan announced that another Star Wars anime series will be released in October 2025. Dubbed Star Wars: Visions - The Ninth Jedi, the anime series will be an ongoing serial and follow the story of Lah Kara, who appeared in Episode 5 of Star Wars: Visions Season 1. The news was received with enthusiasm by the Star Wars community at large.

Compared to its movie and TV series counterparts, Star Wars video games experienced a slump, with very few titles being released and others delayed or even canceled. The exception to this was the Star Wars Jedi series. There are now several Star Wars games in development and set to release over the next two years, including the third and final Star Wars Jedi game, Star Wars Zero Company, and Star Wars Eclipse. A remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is also in development, but without a release date.

Integrating the Anime Art Style Into Video Games

With the popularity of Star Wars: Visions and the positive reception of The Ninth Jedi anime series, a Star Wars game with an anime art style would likely be embraced by fans. Star Wars animation has always pushed the boundaries of animation, with Star Wars: The Clone Wars creating an imaginative art style that is akin to oil painting on 3D models, to Star Wars: Visions Season 2, which had a different art style in every episode. Star Wars video games could take a page from their book and develop an art style in video games that borrows from anime.

A video game released alongside Star Wars anime doesn't have to follow the story of The Ninth Jedi, but could instead be its own original game and story. It could be any genre, from action to RPG or fighting. Japanese video game studios have been making video games with an anime art style for decades, and fans have shown that one for Star Wars would be appreciated. While Star Wars Zero Company is a good sign that more developers are making more diverse Star Wars games, more is needed for Star Wars video games to truly flourish.
