Assault Actions in Star Ocean: The Second Story R function like summons in Final Fantasy or the Poundmates system from Yakuza: Like a Dragon that calls upon past characters to help in battle. The first character will unlock as part of the main story. There are six Star Ocean protagonists to find and summon into combat, with Edge, Roddick, Fayt, Fiddel, and the most recent with Star Ocean: The Divine Force's Laeticia and Raymond.
The Assault Formation also lets the player set inactive characters from Star Ocean: The Second Story R to jump into the fight as a summon, but the past heroes are the most effective. To set the desired characters in the Assault Action menu, use the following steps:
- Press the Triangle button on the PlayStation or the X button on the Switch.
- Highlight and select Tactics.
- Then select Assault Formation.
- Press the D-pad to change and select the formation of the characters.
