Star Citizen provides players with a unique experience and the ultimate freedom to have the adventure they want. With a range of mission types and an almost endless planetary landscape, each mission provides a unique feel and opportunities to play with friends in all manner of ways.

The crime stat is a gameplay feature that stops criminals from having full access to the locations and wreak havoc on the wider community of Star Citizen. This guide will help players remove their crime stat in the new 3.18 patch with all the changes to security posts and the iconic Kareah security outpost.

What is a Crime Stat?

Star Citizen Personal Mercenary Missions Pirate

There are a range of careers players can undertake in the Star Citizen universe, and one of these does include being a criminal. Criminals have a range of mission types to complete that can be found in the "Personal" tab in the contracts manager.

If players partake in this gameplay loop or commit a crime such as killing another player or security guard they will gain a crime stat. This means they will be unable to travel to most locations without being shot by local security. As well as this, other players will be able to obtain a bounty against the player.

But how do players remove their crime stat without going to prison? It all starts with the Tigersclaw key.

Getting a Tigersclaw Key

Star Citizen Tigersclaw

There are a few ways of obtaining a Tigersclaw key, the easiest way is to head to Grim Hex, a pirate hub located in the asteroid belt around Yela.

Here, there is a shop that sells these keys for an extremely cheap price. It's worth picking up a few to have on hand in case the player manages to pick up a crime stat in the future. Taking a few of these to the player's main spawn location can save some time and inconvenience.

Players can also find an abundance of these in containers around the verse. When completing bunker missions, spend some time searching through the containers for the keys, weapons, and armor. It's always good to have a Tigersclaw on hand, especially in bunkers where the security guards are easy to mistake for criminals.

Traveling to Security Post Kareah

Security Post Kareah is incredibly easy to find through the system map in the Mobiglass. This can easily be accessed by pressing F1 and clicking on the map tab or simply going straight to it through the F2 key.

From here, focus on the Crusader planet system and zoom in on Cellin. Players can find this security post floating slightly above the planet's surface. It's good to know that the security systems are active here and will fire on sight, especially if the player has a crime stat.

To avoid this, park the ship just below the large landing pad and use the EVA suit to navigate to an entrance. This is harder for large ships as they may not fit directly under the platform (away from the oncoming fire) and will likely need a second smaller ship to infiltrate the post while maintaining a safe distance.

Removing the Crime Stat

After entering Security Post Kareah, head towards the center console and equip the Tigersclaw. Look towards the lower part of the console, there will be a slot that will allow the key to be inserted. From here, simply follow the steps on the screen.

The loading bar will have a few sections. Once it reaches the end of the first, the player will need to interact with the screen to continue the process. Once this is complete, the player can start removing their crimes from the database. This will need to be done individually for each crime, which can take some time.

Finally, exit this area to avoid any bounty hunters trying to capitalize on the player's crimes.

Security Post Kareah Updates

Star Citizen Security Post Kareah Updates

There are a range of changes and updates coming with the 3.18 patch. Security Post Kareah is receiving a massive overhaul across the board, beginning with a complete redesign with new areas and a revamped color scheme.

The security here has had an upgrade with a larger variety of enemy types and more challenging AI to fight off oncoming criminals. This will make clearing the crime stat much harder once inside. On top of this, Kareah will now be the only place players can clear their crime stat in the system, making it far more dangerous for players trying to clear their names.

However, this feature will make Cellin a hotspot for bounty hunting and mercenary missions creating a much more PvP-driven area.

New Gameplay and Looting

Star Citizen Security Post Kareah Contraband

Finally, for players looking to make some money whilst clearing their criminal records, they can retrieve some contraband from the hold found on Kareah.

Although this isn't as lucrative as the method of farming contraband from Jumptown, it can be a great way of making some quick cash while here. It's likely large organizations in the verse will take control of this supply and utilize their numbers to make mass revenue from the contraband source.

Currently, this is still a little glitchy and players shouldn't rely on Kareah as a main source of aUEC as it is also a hotspot for criminals who can and will quickly put an end to the fun.
