Summary

  • Jun-hee and Myung-gi have a dark history and compelling dynamic.
  • Jun-hee's pregnancy adds a terrifying layer to Squid Game season 2.
  • Fans debate if Jun-hee and Myung-gi will reconcile or remain enemies in Squid Game season 3.

There are plenty of fascinating characters on Netflix's Squid Game, including Lee Myung-gi (Im Si-wan) and Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yuri), a former couple who both end up playing these terrifying games. Jun-hee has a sad backstory and is now pregnant and in a rough spot thanks to her relationship with Myung-gi. Since Myung-gi is involved in cryptocurrency, Jun-hee lost money, which motivated her to play the Squid Game.

As fans predict the events of Squid Game season 3, which will arrive on Netflix on June 27th, 2025, I'm thinking about the relationship between Jun-hee and Myung-gi. Since they have such a dark history, they're some of the most engaging players on the Netflix series, and I'm nervous about what the future could hold for them.

Any potential American version of Netflix's Squid Game is going to be unable to truly replicate the show.

Jo Yori Commented On Jun-hee And Myung-gi's Squid Game Relationship And I'm Wondering, Too

Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yuri) and Lee Myung-gi (Im Si-wan) in Squid Game season 2

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Jo Yori talked about her Squid Game character Jun-hee's relationship with Lee Myung-gi in Squid Game season 2. She said:

"I definitely had some questions about the choices that Junhee makes. I was really curious to know why she made those [questionable] choices. Like, her relationship with Myunggi, her ex-boyfriend. She seems to have a mixed feeling towards him because, on the one hand, she hates him, but, on the other hand, she feels inevitably drawn to him… again and again."

She continued:

"So, since I love and care for Junhee a lot, I couldn't help but worry. I didn't want her to fall for Myunggi again. I was like, 'Junhee. No. Don't do this. Don't care about Myunggi, please.' That was the part about Junhee that made me most curious."

I want to see Jun-hee and Myung-gi in Squid Game season 3 and while many characters should return, they're at the top of my list. I'm also wondering what Jun-hee and Myungi-gi's dynamic could look like in Squid Game season 3. Now that she is pregnant with his child, but they're no longer together, and she's rightly angry about losing money through his scheme, will they be allies or enemies in Squid Game season 3?

It's compelling seeing the former couple help each other in Squid Game season 2 and one could argue this is why they each survive. But will that same story be told in the third season? On the one hand, I could see them continuing to assist each other because no matter how sad and mad she is, she doesn't want him to die. But on the other hand, it would be fascinating if she turned on him and decided she could go it alone. Jun-hee could stronger and tougher in the next season, which would add a layer to her already likable character.

Jun-hee's pregnancy adds an extra terrifying layer to Squid Game season 2 since she wants to be strong for her child and have enough money to be there for them. Some think that Jun-hee could die in Squid Game season 3, which I think would be one of the most heartbreaking deaths in the entire series. I definitely don't want that to happen, and I don't want Myung-gi to die, either. I would be interested in seeing Myung-gi redeem himself and if he and Jun-hee survive, perhaps they could have a serious conversation in the Squid Game series finale.

What Do Fans Think Could Happen To Jun-hee And Myung-gi In Squid Game Season 3?

Fans have thought a lot about how this relationship could work in Squid Game season 3. In one Reddit thread, several fans said they still love each other and could possibly get back together if they make it through until the end of the series.

One fan pointed out that Squid Game players often have a complex dynamic if they knew each other before the games began. They wrote:

"There are definitely residual feelings, but it may not be romantic. We’ve seen lots of other examples of players finding other players who they know from real life. They have an added factor of why they’ll be able to trust each other or why they may attempt to team up and protect each other."

Other viewers have debated on Reddit if Myung-gi is interested in Jun-hee because of money or because he truly loves her. I'm definitely interested to see how this relationship plays out in Squid Game season 3. While it would be great if these characters had a happy ending and if Myung-gi became a better person, I'm not so sure that the Squid Game finale is going to be pleasant.
