This year's Tokyo Game Show looks to be stacked with big gaming companies showing off new titles and providing more information about existing releases. As the event's beginning date of September 15 looms closer, many publishers and developers are revealing what they have planned for TGS 2022. Capcom, for example, outlined that it will be holding two streams on the live stage, and Konami has promised the reveal of a new game in a beloved franchise. Now, Square Enix has officially unveiled what it will be showcasing at the Tokyo Game Show, and the results are somewhat surprising.Perhaps the most interesting of the reveals about what fans will see at TGS is the confirmation of Final Fantasy 16 and the second part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake making their way to the event. Previously, it was believed that Final Fantasy 16 would not be featured at Tokyo Game Show at all, after a list of all the games Square Enix planned to showcase at the event was shared. Final Fantasy 16's absence from that list was confusing for fans, who believed it was one of Square Enix's biggest upcoming releases.RELATED: Xbox Announces Tokyo Game Show Plans and Streaming Schedule While this official information from Square Enix does confirm that Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth will have a presence at this year's TGS, fans perhaps shouldn't hold their breath for brand-new gameplay or trailers given the fact that both games weren't originally expected to appear. Due to the lack of hype being built around Final Fantasy 16's appearance at the Square Enix booth, many are expecting that some old trailers will be shown instead of anything new.

However, there is still the possibility that some new Final Fantasy 16 footage could be shown. Until Tokyo Game Show is over, fans won't know for sure what surprises may be coming from the event. In any case, at the time of writing it seems Square Enix has a bigger focus placed on its other upcoming titles. Action-adventure title Forspoken will be getting a showcase, alongside other highly anticipated games like the new Nier: Automata: The End of YoRHa edition for Switch and Tactics Ogre: Reborn.

Even if Square Enix doesn't show off a lot of new content for either Final Fantasy 16 or Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, there are plenty of other exhibitions at TGS for gamers to enjoy. As stated, Konami is set to reveal a new title at the event, and Xbox will also be making an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show. Moreover, for the first time the PS VR2 will be playable with a Resident Evil: Village demo.
