Nintendo Switch owners will soon get the chance to play the next brand-new installment in the Paranormasight visual novel mystery series, Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse. The paranormal detective game's upcoming launch on Switch is scheduled for February 19, meaning fans only have to wait about two weeks to take their first dive in.
The first game in the series, Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, originally launched in March 2023 for Switch, PC, and mobile devices. Developed by Xeen and published by Square Enix, it told the tale of several people in a Tokyo neighborhood in the 1980s who had been affected by a mysterious curse, tasking the player with facing off against spirits and working through each character's story across a three-day arc. It received generally favorable reviews from critics at launch, and its "overwhelmingly positive" rate of 95 percent player satisfaction marks it as one of the best Square Enix games on Steam.

The Next Paranormasight Game Launches on Switch on February 19
Nearly three years after the original game's release, Switch owners will be able to dive into the next chapter in the Paranormasight plot line. As revealed at the February 2026 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse will be launching on the hybrid console on February 19. Pre-orders are expected to open up on the same day as the game's announcement on the Nintendo eShop, falling exactly two weeks ahead of the game's planned release date.
As shown off in a trailer during the showcase, the main action will take place in and around the waters of Ise Bay, a real-world location situated between the Mie and Aichi prefectures in Japan. As young pearl diver Yuza Minakuchi, players will perform investigations around an island where residents pass down legends of mermaids. But the action will take a turn for the macabre after Yuza encounters a mysterious other version of himself on the floor of the sea, which leads to a series of other mysteries, all seeming to be tied to a centuries-old local tale of a mermaid's curse. A detective game at heart, there will also be some creepy, supernatural elements afoot, and the visual novel presentation means players should expect to form close bonds with the others affected by the curse.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.
Fans of Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo probably have a good idea of the gameplay loop that the sequel is likely to follow. Yuza will encounter a variety of local residents who all seem to be affected by the curse, including a girl who has lost her memories, a pair of treasure-seekers, and a woman who busies herself by looking into reports of local drownings. But Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse's remote island setting offers up a chance for the development team to put a unique spin on the investigative sections of the game. In addition to interviewing the island's residents, the game will also require players to participate in diving sections, trying to uncover any parts of the mystery that may be concealed beneath the waters of Ise Bay.
The games should also appeal to fans of games inspired by Japanese folklore. The original Paranormasight game wove a complex tale of seven individuals each affected by their own curse stone, and every stone was lauded by players for feeling authentic, with each being tied to an actual Japanese legend and real-world location. There's still a lot of mystery to uncover surrounding the plot of Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse, but the selection of real-life destination Ise Bay as its setting and the development team's track record for incorporating folklore into its tales offers a lot of promise for Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curs e to deliver in much the same way that its predecessor did .
