5 Square Enix Games You Can No Longer Buy

For years. Square Enix has been famous for creating incredible RPGs, as well as diving into other genres to provide players with great stories and fun combat mechanics. With enormous franchises like Final Fantasy, the studio has positioned itself as one of the largest video game developers in the world.

Unfortunately, not every title can be a massive hit, even with great character designs involved. A few of Square Enix's games have had to be shelved either due to low review scores, a lack of concurrent players, or other reasons. This has caused many of said games' digital copies to be pulled off the market. While it is still possible to buy a few physical copies of some of these titles, they're usually second-hand, and sold by individuals rather than stores. Here are some Square Enix games that players can no longer buy.

5 Mobius Final Fantasy

A High-Quality Mobile Final Fantasy Game

• Genre: RPG, Free-to-play
• Great voice acting and overall production quality.
• The game was pulled from stores in March 2020.

Set in the fictional world of Palamecia, Mobius Final Fantasy focuses on the protagonist, the Warrior of Light, who suffers from amnesia. When players step into his shoes, his journey towards saving the world begins. The game combines mobile-friendly game mechanics with the classic Final Fantasy RPG elements that players have come to love over the years.

After a considerable decline in player interest over time, the game was finally delisted from online stores and other outlets in March 2020. The game's production quality was great and it had excellent voice acting, which can be rare for a mobile game.

4 Marvel's Avengers

A Superhero Game That Couldn't Stick The Landing​​​​​

• The game was pulled from online stores in 2023 due to poor performance.
• Crystal Dynamics assured players that single-player and multiplayer would still be available.

Marvel's Avengers tells the story of the moment when the Avengers are framed and blamed for causing a catastrophe known as "A-Day." The event resulted in the destruction of San Francisco, causing many conflicts between the members, which eventually led to them disbanding. After some time, the Avengers must gather once again to defeat M.O.D.O.K., and clear their name.

3 Babylon's Fall

A Game That Honored Its Name

In Babylon's Fall, players take on the role of the Sentinels, known as powerful warriors who are tasked to confront an ancient evil. With a strong focus on multiplayer that allowed players to use a variety of weapons and work with their friends to overcome obstacles, Babylon's Fall offered a fun experience.

The game had great lore, comparable to more popular titles. It offered boss fights, and a unique art style that was both interesting and aesthetically pleasing. Sadly, the game was delisted from online stores in late 2022, and its servers were permanently shut down in early 2023.

2 Hitman Sniper: The Shadows

A Mobile Sniper Game With A Lot Of Potential

• Genre: Action, Role-playing game
• Intense sniper action that allows players to eliminate targets.
• The game was pulled due to low profits and company restructuring.

Designed as a mobile spin-off for the Hitman franchise, Hitman Sniper: The Shadows focused on strategic sniper gameplay where players could take on the role of different assassins under the command of leader Diana Burnwood. The title's gameplay was heavily focused on sniper action, and allowed players to eliminate targets while interacting with environmental elements to create distractions.

HItman Sniper: The Shadows was shelved and removed from digital stores in late 2022, and its servers were shutdown a few weeks later, early in 2023. This decision was made for various reasons, including low profitability and internal company restructuring.

1 The 3rd Birthday

A Spin-off Of a Timeless Classic

• A Parasite Eve spin-off that is very hard to come by.
• There are still a few second-hand copies being sold on online marketplaces.

As the spin-off of one of the most critically acclaimed games on the PS1, Parasite Eve, The 3rd Birthday was released in 2010 by Square Enix. The story focuses on Aya Brea in her quest to stop monstrous creatures from destroying New York. By transferring her consciousness to other bodies, Aya can gain an edge over her enemies.

The game introduced fast-paced combat, a new ability called Overdrive, and several game mechanics that weren't in Parasite Eve. While the game hasn't been shelved per se, being part of the PSP makes it difficult to find a copy for sale. There are a few second-hand sellers online who have it available, but that's about it.
