Split Fiction takes players into the shoes of Mio and Zoe, two aspiring writers who have been trying to get published. However, Mio accidentally enters Zoe’s simulation, and the two must now work together to return to the real world. While inside the simulation, Mio suspected that Rader was trying to steal their ideas instead of getting them published, and this soon be confirmed when the duo experienced their first side story.
The first side story in the Neon Revenge chapter is The Legend of the Sandfish side story. The optional mission is quite straightforward but has a little puzzle, perfect for an introduction to the side story mechanics.

The Legend Of The Sandfish Side Story In Split Fiction
There’s only one part that’s tricky in The Legend of the Sandfish side story in Split Fiction, and that’s when the duo must distract the sandfish from eating them. To do this, the two must split ways as one player will distract the sandfish using the tower thump, while the other will run to the next tower to help the previous thumper.
For example, stand with Zoe by the gate while Mio waits by the tower. Slowly make thumps to distract the sandfish while Zoe skips to the other side.
Once Zoe arrives at the second tower, do the same thing for Mio, where Zoe distracts the sandfish and Mio runs for her life within the quicksand.
After doing this with a total of four thumping towers, the duo can reunite to push down a pillar, allowing them to cross safely. On the new platform, skip on the narrow poles until players can reach the other side.
From there, the two will once again work together to lift a rope that’s buried in the sand.
Cross the rope to the other side, then climb the shorter pole before switching to the taller one.
From the taller pole, swing to the other side. From here on, the duo only have to find their way out of Zoe’s old story. Eventually, Mio and Zoe have to escape by riding the sandfish, bringing players into a small riding action where they must move carefully to avoid obstacles and occasionally jump away from danger.
After successfully riding the sandfish in Split Fiction, players will return to the Neon Revenge chapter, and the side story will be removed from the simulation, indicating that the story has now been "saved" and can’t be stolen by the evil Rader.
