The Notebook Side Story is the final Side Story in the fourth level of Split Fiction, offering a unique, artistic adventure where the Narrator sketches the world with a pencil as the story unfolds. The entire environment is drawn in black and white, enhancing the hand-drawn aesthetic and making it feel like players are stepping into a living sketchbook. This creative choice adds a charming, storybook-like atmosphere, making this Side Story stand out from the rest.
In this adventure, players take on the roles of two heroes navigating a dynamic, illustrated world. Here’s how players can start and complete the Notebook Side Story in Split Fiction.

Notebook Walkthrough - Split Fiction
How To Start Notebook Side Story
After defeating the Overseer, both co-op partners will gain access to jetpacks, making factory traversal much easier. Upon shooting the switches to exit into the open, a moving spike mechanism along a massive wire-like structure will be visible. At this point, Mio will mention a Side Story in the distance. Use your jetpack to reach the structure, then move to the platform on the left to interact and begin the Side Story.
This Side Story takes place within a notebook, where a pencil dynamically sketches the path ahead. Follow the route on the right and jump onto the clouds. Here, you’ll obtain a sword to fend off spawning enemies, followed by Nunchucks and finally a Bow, which will be your primary weapon for the remainder of the Side Story. Clear out the birds, then proceed to the bridge, where a troll will block your way
Solving The Riddles
For this co-op puzzle, the troll will pose three riddles. The answer to the first is "Stick." For the second, the troll will ask how many jumps you've made so far—this varies per playthrough, so an incorrect guess is likely. If wrong, the troll denies passage, forcing players to use their bows against it. This prompts the narrator to deem it too violent, resulting in both players being dropped down. If you correctly answer the number of jumps, the third riddle asks for the troll’s favorite color, to which the correct response is "Red."
Even if you succeed, the narrator dismisses the scene as dull and drops you both down anyway.
Fighting The Boss
After this, one player transforms into a horse while the other operates a lever to open a barred gate. Once this is over, the next section of this role-playing co-op story involves scaling a misty mountain with the aid of goats. At the summit, players enter a cave where they must climb down the poles, being mindful of the spikes on the bottom or sides of the walls. The cave leads to a giant door with three boss choices.
Selecting "Duck" will be considered too silly by the narrator, prompting another selection between "Crab" and "Demon." After defeating the chosen boss, board the ship to complete the Side Story.
