Apart from constructing and upgrading buildings, players will also need to look after their passengers by keeping their ghostly bellies full. Minus specific dietary requirements of some passengers, they also have favorite foods which require specific ingredients to make. One such ingredient is the spicy Fireglow vegetable which requires more work than most produce.

Where To Find Fireglow

As mentioned Fireglow is a vegetable that is used to create a variety of cooking recipes, in order to earn this produce players must first grow the Fireglow seeds in the ground of a constructed farm on the boat. It will take a couple of days for these seeds to grow into the spicy plant needed and therefore players must make sure they check on their farm daily to water the produce when it begins to dry out.

However, before a player can even begin to grow this plant they must first find the Fireglow seeds which can be earned while completing the Fireflies mini-game event. This can only be conducted if the regal red owl Gustav has been successfully recruited on to the ship who will then instruct the player to catch some fireflies. There are a total of three areas on the map that players can go and complete this event, the easiest to find is near the Kaltstein Mines in the northwest ice region. However, players will need to have unlocked the Icebreaker ship upgrade to access this area, the other two events can be found further east.

How To Recruit Gustav

Before players can even begin to think about pursuing this mini-game they must first find and recruit the art eccentric owl Gustav. Although he can come off as quite arrogant to players, he has an amazing grace about him through his love for art as well as being musically gifted with the violin. Boosting his mood enough will also allow this wise old owl to play tunes for the other passengers on the vessel.

Players will first meet Gustav on the island Furogawa the main island of its region. Although players may meet him early into their adventure he can't be recruited on the boat until the Icebreaker upgrade has been installed as his quest requires the player to visit Susan's Museum to collect a wood print. It can be found in the Hummingberg Region of the map after the player has broken through the thick glaciers that block their path. Once the missing wood print has been bought from the legendary collector Susan a player can happily invite Gustav onboard where he instantly begins to critique the furnishings as well as allowing players to complete the event.

How To Complete The Fireflies Mini-Game

Unlike recruiting Bruce and Mickey, Gustav never instructs the player to try out this mini-game as a quest and therefore many players may not realize it exists until its ingredients are required for a different resident. Once approaching one of the areas shown on the map that looks like a cloud of fireflies, players can then approach Gustav to begin the event. This mini-game is by far one of the easiest available to players as well as being a great way to make glimmer due to how many fireflies will appear on the screen.

A swarm of fireflies will appear on the right side of the screen and then gradually fly left, it is down to the player to grab as many as they can in the time available to them. The majority of fireflies will be gold and these shall only drop glimmer while there will also be the occasional bright red firefly that is holding a packet. Players will want to focus on these red bugs as they are the ones that drop the Fireglow seeds needed to grow the final plant. Having a great boat layout can help greatly with how many a player can collect.

What To Do With Fireglow

A bowl of Laska from Spiritfarer

Passengers don't like eating raw food in Spiritfarer, so before it can be presented to the spirits as a fine meal for them players must first tend to it in a Kitchen. On its own it can make the simple snack called Flamin' Firebirdz however in an upgraded kitchen the oven door is open to a variety of exciting dishes. For players that are hoping to please their friends with their favorite foods then Fireglow is a necessity as it is needed for both Jackie's favorite dish of Chilaquiles and Beverley's dish of Laksa.

Beverly will also ask the player to cook this meal for her as one of her quests. This means that eventually players will need to look into growing Fireglow even if it is just a small amount in order to fulfill the last wishes of those on their boat. It is important to note that none of Gustav's requests require Fireglow at all though he does enjoy exotic foods which the majority of the Fireglow recipes fit into.
