Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home has already swung its way onto the list of biggest box office openings, and fans have now voted the Multiversal flick to become the most popular movie on IMDb's 2021 list of feature films. But the accolades don’t end there, as Spider-Man: No Way Home has also landed a spot on IMDb's Top 250 films list.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is the fourth film in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and marks the end of Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy, which began with 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Holland's portrayal of the friendly neighborhood Spidey has been appreciated by fans over the years, but his latest appearance is what has fans praising his journey as the hero.
With over 220,000 votes, fans chose Spider-Man: No Way Home to become the most popular film on IMDb, ranking it 9/10 stars. Despite the ongoing pandemic affecting filming schedules, hundreds of films were released in 2021 and it seems like the latest superhero flick has won the hearts of the masses. The fact that the database has added No Way Home to the top 250 films of all time is simply the cherry on top.
IMDb's Top 250 list is ranked using a secret formula, and the votes cast by the site's regular users are also taken into consideration. It is, therefore, not much of a surprise to see Spider-Man: No Way Home on the #9 ranking in the Top 250 list, as fans have already voted for it to be the most popular film this year. But, it is a little surprising to see it defeat many of the classics.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is the second Spider-Man movie to land on IMDb's ever-changing Top 250 list. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is currently on the #67 spot. Holland's latest run at Spider-Man is the third MCU film to join the IMDb list, with Avengers: Infinity War ranked #64, and Avengers: Endgame currently ranked #77. Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, which released in 2008, is on the #4 spot, making it the highest-rated comic book movie. At one point, the film was ranked at #1, but lost its top spot after the secret formula was applied again.
After earning the #9 spot, Spider-Man: No Way Home has beaten films like 1994’s Forrest Gump, 2010’s Inception, 1999’s The Matrix, and 2019’s Academy Award-winning Parasite. Timothée Chalamet's Dune is the only other English film from 2021 to have made the Top 250 list, and is currently ranked #180. However, it is currently the ninth most popular film, based on the user votes.
